Hazel Godwin Kunert
April 26, 2003
Services for Hazel Godwin Kunert, 80, of Atmore, will be held today, April 30, 2003, at 1 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Larry Gilley officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. She died Saturday April 26, 2003 in Atmore. She was an operator with Southland Telephone Company.
Kunert was born on January 14, 1923 to the late Lawrence Floyd and Annie Greer Godwin. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and also a member of Southland Telephone Company Golden Girls.
She is survived by her husband, Walter H. Kunert of Atmore; two sons, Raymond C. Kunert and wife Ann of Wetumpka, Wayne Richard Kunert and wife Linda of Hiram, Ga.; a daughter, Cheryl A. Blanton and husband Joe E. of Atmore, two brothers, Robert Lewis Godwin of Lake Butler, Fla., and Wendel Wayne Godwin of McClenny, Fla.; three sisters, Janice G. Sirmon of Atmore, Evelyn G. Sepulcado of Zwolle, La., and Una G. Miller of Ft. Payne, Ala., seven grand-children, Kim Blanton, Kristi Blanton, Jason Kunert, Tonya Jones, Emily Kunert, Jennifer Wade and Elizabeth Kunert; and five great grand-children.
Active Pallbearers will be Charles Stark, Vincent Milstead, A.J. Hudson, George Carpenter, Donald Dennis and Elvin Pugh. Honorary pallbearers will be Arnold Pugh, Marhsall Hanks, Calvin McCall, J. B. Walker, Lawrence Grimes, Teddy Salyer, Vernon Smith, Boyd Sigafoose and Joe Nesovitch.
Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Blanche I. Mize
April 15, 2003
Graveside services for Blanche I. Mize, 82, were held on April 18, 2003 at 1 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery with Dr. Douglas Newton officiating. She passed away On Tuesday, April 15, at Brian Center Nursing Home in LaGrange, Ga. Mize was born on September 25, 1920 to the late Richard D and Susie Hardee Purvis.
She was a resident of Lanett, Ala., and a former resident of Atmore for many years. She worked at the Vanity Fair Plant in Atmore for several years and also at the Greater Fair Department Store.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Mize. Survivors include: One son, Ronnie Mize and his wife Mary Ann of Lake Hardin, Ala.; two sisters, Lillian Smith of Huntsville and Mae Belle Nall of Mobile; two brothers, Dolphia Purvis of Pensacola and Curtis Purvis of Atmore; two grandsons, Geoffery Mize of New York and Matthew Mize of Lake Harding; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
McCarthy Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Max Farrell Sasser
April 27, 2003
Services for Max Farrell Sasser, age 65 of Atmore, were held on April 29, 2003 at 3 p.m. at Presley Street Baptist Church with Dr. Doug Newton and the Rev. James Otis Thames officiating. Interment followed in Oak Hill Cemetery. Sasser died Sunday April 27, 2003 in Atmore.
He was the retired owner of Atmore Plumbing Company. He was born in Escambia County, Alabama on January 15, 1938 to the late Wilson Leroy and Lenora Luker Sasser. He is proceeded in death by his wife, Ruth Evelyn Sasser and one brother, Edward L. Sasser. He was a member of Presley Street Baptist Church.
He is survived by one son, Henry Lowery and wife, Anne of Silver Hill, Ala.; two daughters, Patsy Frazier and husband Charles of Monroeville and Madelyn Costa and Dick of Los Altos, Calif.; six sisters, Marle Bryant of Mobile, Evelyn Dillree and husband John of Gulf Breeze, Eunice Reynolds and husband John of Mobile, Patsy Richardson, Carolyn Hetzel and Joyce Brown and husband, Ed, all of Atmore; eight grand-children, Darren Frazier, Kim Jordan, Chris Frazier, Jessica Costa, Stephanie Costa, Jennifer Costa, Heather Hagan and Meredith Lowery; four great grand-children; Jareth Frazier, Chelsea Jordan, Emily Jordan and Emily Hagan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Active pallbearers were nephews Glen Bryant, Bill Clayton, Gary Hetzel, Earl Miller, Jeff Reynolds and Michael Sasser. Honorary pallbearers were Elton Bryars, Raymond Kimmons, Jack Madison, Jack Wright, Tom Brown, Ollie Strawbridge, Bobby Mays, James "Sonny" Byrd, Charles Ellis Dunn, Wayne Dunn, Kim Dunn Jr., Dick Dunn, Steve Dunn, Craig Dunn, Gerald Dunn, Ricky Dunn, Mark Dunn, Jason Dunn, Mark Brown, Melvin Hetzel, Matthew Hetzel, Ken Miller, Randy Bryant, Eddie Sasser, Glen "Bud" Dunn, Ben Dunn Jr., David Dunn and Warren Dunn.

Bettie Dirden
April 25, 2003
Services for Bettie Dirden, 76, will be Saturday, May 3, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Jones Street Holiness Church in Atmore with Dr. B. Cunningham officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
Dirden passed away Friday, April 25 at Baptist Hospital. She was a native of Uriah, and a resident of Atmore for many years. She was a retired restaurant cook.
She was preceded in death by three sons,Willie Dirden, Ted Dirden and John Dirden; two sisters; Mattie Lou Coleman and Jospehine Gardner and two brothers, Dave Bush and Freddie Bush.
She is survived by three daughters, Betty (Henry) Carter, Rachael (Rosco) Shoemaker and Margaret (Walter) Lymon, all of Atmore; two sons, James (Anne Mae) Dirden and Barron Dirden, both of Atmore; her parents, Vanderbill and Edith Bush of Atmore; two sisters, Ulla Mae Bush and Estelle Bush of Atmore; fifteen grand-children and sixteen great grand-children.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 2, from 1 until 8:30 p.m. at Turner Funeral Chapel. Her body will also be available for viewing at the church, one hour prior to services.
Turner Funeral Chapel is in charge of all arraignments.
