MOBILE – U.S. Rep. Jo Bonner, R-Alabama today announced the award of funding to the City of Atmore from the United States Department of Transportation for improvements to Atmore Municipal Airport.
The funding, totaling $150,000.00, will be used to fund the acquisition of additional land adjacent to the runway for the purpose of providing a standard safety area and runway protection zone.
"I am extremely pleased the Department of Transportation has approved this funding for the City of Atmore," Bonner said.
"As an area currently in the process of attempting to attract new industry and capital investment, improvements to the airport will provide greater accessibility to Atmore and allow for easier transportation for industrial development and corporate executives.
Mayor Shell and the members of the city council should be commended for their hard work in achieving this funding."
