Escambia Academy track team wins state 2A division titles
The Cougars finished the 2003 track season with both the boys and girls teams winning the 2A divisions at the A.I.S.A State Track Meet in Selma. In addition to winning the division titles, the boy's team placed second in the overall standings which combined all of the 1A, 2A and 3A teams.
In the individual scoring, Robert Hardy won the high jump, long jump and set a state record in the triple jump. Matthew Rice placed third in the triple jump. Dustin Roberts placed third in the 200 meter dash. Cole Norton placed third and Chivas Thompson placed fifth in the 400 meter dash. Alan Ash placed fifth in the two mile run. The boy's 4-by-200 meter relay team of Chivas Thompson, Dalton Murphy, Cole Norton and Dustin Roberts placed first; the 4-by-400 meter relay team of Cole Norton, Matthew Rice, Dustin Roberts and Chivas Thompson placed first; the 4-by-100 meter relay team of Chivas Thompson, Dalton Murphy, Robert Hardy and Dustin Roberts placed second and the 4-by-800 relay team of Ryan Woods, Pierce Robinson, Alan Ash and Matt Ash placed fifth.
In the girl's competition Shelby Hester placed sixth in the discus and Jessica Nesmith placed sixth in the shot put.
The girl's 4-by-200 meter relay team of Katie Smith, Wynne Channell, Morgan Dorriety and Kaylie Castleberry placed fifth; the 4-by-800 meter relay team of Erin Burkette, Meagan Bell, Terri Bumann and Rayleen Miller placed third and the 4-by-400 meter relay team of Andrea Nall, Kaylie Castleberry, Erin Burkette and Morgan Dorriety placed third.
