A murder case dating back more than two years is expected to be heard during the first day of the upcoming June criminal court session.
Donald Dortch, 38, of Atmore, will be tried for murder in the shooting death of Mary Ann Irvin Wiley, who was 41-years-old at the time of her death. Dortch was arrested on Feb. 11, 2001.
The investigation began when an Atmore resident discovered the body of Wiley lying in a ditch along the 100 block of Ashley Street. She had died from a single gunshot wound to the head.
Atmore Police officials reported that witnesses saw Dortch and Wiley become involved in an altercation in the area where the body was found on the night before it was discovered. The two were allegedly dating at the time.
