The Atmore City Council rejected a beer license for McCant's Grocery at its meeting last week.
At the previous council meeting, a request for a business license by Cleo McCant's was also denied.
Council members John Watkins and Louie Turner recommended the request for a beer license be denied based on concern from residents in the area. Watkins said citizens in the area had concerns about drug and crime problems last time a business was open at the McCant's Grocery.
In other business:
The council approved the transfer of a beer license to Petroleum Engineering &Construction, the new owner of the South Main Street 66 Station.
The council also voted to send a referendum to the Alabama Legislature to extend the Atmore City limits. The council wants to extend the city limits to include the new industrial park on Highway 21 and I-65 and the Atmore airport.
