The Atmore 15 year old all-stars shut down the competition this weekend in Monroeville in the District 7 Babe Ruth Tournament with a strong crowd of Atmore fans in attendance.
Atmore began the weekend's play Saturday with a 12-4 victory over South Monroe. Stellar pitching as well as impressive batting helped lock the victory for Atmore. Three pitchers combined for a two hit game with ten strikeouts. Chris Graham pitched the first three innings, allowing one earned run, one hit, and walking none. Charles Haney also pitched three innings, followed by Cord Crook to close the game.
Cook was also an important factor offensively with a home run. Graham led the team in offense, going three for four with a single, two home runs, and five RBIs.
On Sunday the Atmore team took on arch-rival Brewton for a hard fought 3-1 victory. Cook pitched five innings, allowing only two hits and one run. Graham closed the game, pitching two innings with no hits, no walks, and no runs. He struck out four. Charles Dailey and Miller McCaster combined on a critical play late in the game when Dailey made a throw from center field to McCaster at third base for an out.
Atmore faced the winner of the Brewton-South Monroe game last night in Monroeville.
Winners and statistics from that game were not available at press time.
