Hurricanes pound Bayside Academy

The Flomaton Hurricanes traveled to take on Bayside Academy on their homecoming. The Hurricanes opened with the kickoff with Leon Johnson running it back 94 for yards for the touchdown. The PAT was attempted and made for a score of 7-0.
The Canes then held Bayside forcing them to punt. Brian Wesley of the Canes then got the chance to run 65 yards for the second touchdown of the night. The PAT was attempted, however, was not made, bringing the score to 13-0 at the end of the fist quarter.
Bayside took the second quarter using seven plays to generate 61 yards. Michael Powell for Bayside scored their first touchdown of the night with a completed pass 17 yards out. Bayside attempted and made the PAT. The Canes took the kickoff, however, fumbled the ball with Bayside gaining possession, only to drive down the field and kick a 36 -yard field goal. With 23 seconds left in the second quarter Michael McCall scored with a 14-yard pass taking the score from 13-10 to 19-10, with the Canes leading at the end of the first half.
The Canes took the field in the third quarter scoring another touchdown by Duck Wesley from the 9- yard line. The score remained 25-10 after the Canes attempted the PAT, missing once again on the night. With only 54 seconds on the clock, the Canes continued to score on Bayside after C.J. Williams hit Michael McCall with a 72-yard pass completion and a good PAT leading into the fourth quarter 32-10.
Bayside, determined not to give up added point to their score after a 10-yard pass was completed to Wes Odam. Bayside attempted the PAT, but failed for a score of 32-16. The Canes came right back to Bayside when Duck Wesley ran 50 yards for the touchdown. The Canes followed the run with a successful PAT for a score of 39-16. The Canes weren't going to stop there, so with 3:18 left on the clock, the Canes took it in from the 1-yard line to finish the game with a final score of 45-16. The Canes ran the ball in this game 22 times for 134 yards on the ground, six of eight passes completed for 207 yards totaling 341 yards, and seven first downs. The Canes, now 5-1 on the season, next play Leroy at home Oct. 10. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
