Obituaries for May 30, 2004 edition of the Atmore Advance
Simon Milton
Mr. Simon Milton, of Atmore, died Tuesday, May 25, 2004, in Atmore Community Hospital.
He was 88 years old. Milton was a native of Brewton and a resident of Atmore for many years. He was a employee of Standard Furniture.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Milton, and sister, Ruth Thames.
He is survived by two daughters, Danice Lee of Rock Island, IL. and Alvis Omar of Cleveland, Ohio; one son, Simon Milton Jr. of Rock Island; one sister, Clementine Bishop of Atmore; one brother, A.D. Milton Jr. of Atmore; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Greater Mt. Triumph Baptist Church in Atmore on Saturday, May 29, with Pastor Willie Hawthorne officiating. Burial service was held at Stallworth Cemetery.
Turner Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Felix Sharpless Jr.
Mr. Felix Broughton "Buddy" Sharpless Jr., of Walnut Hill, died Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at a Pensacola hospital. He was 67 years old.
Sharpless was a native of Atmore and a resident of Walnut Hill for the past 67 years. He attended Walnut Hill Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Felix Broughton Sharpless, and wife, Alice Ruth Smith Sharpless.
He is survived by his daughter, Tracy Lemay and husband James Capps of Walnut Hill; mother, Opal Pierce Falk of Walnut Hill; brother, Tommy Falk of Nokomis; two sisters, June McCann of Pensacola and Sharon Poulsen of Walnut Hill; three grandchildren, Brittany Capps, Jesse Capps and Tristan Capps.
Funeral services were held at Eastside Chapel Funeral Home on Friday, May 28, with Brother James Byrd officiating. Burial took place at Walnut Hill Baptist.
Eastside Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mary Davis
Mrs. Mary Frances Davis, of Davisville, died Thursday, May 27, 2004, in Pensacola.
Born to Nathan and Medie Maulden in Covington County, she was 85 years old. She attended Pine Barron Baptist Church and was retired from St. Regis Paper Mill.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Helton J. Davis.
She is survived by two sons, Bobby and wife Susan Davis of Pensacola, and Harel Davis of Davisville; two brothers, Pete Maulden of Live Oak, Fla., Jessie Maulden of Vernon, Fla.; one sister, Willie Godwin of Fort Morgan; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. at Atmore Memorial Chapel Funeral Home on Sunday, May 30.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. at the Pine Barron Cemetery on Monday, May 31, with Rev. Mike Harper officiating.
Memorial Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Margie Bradley
Mrs. Margie Lee Bradley, of Wilcox County, died Monday, May 24, 2004, at her residence. She was 84 years old.
Bradley was a native of Wilcox County and a resident of Atmore for many years. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by six sisters and six brothers.
She is survived by four daughters, Mae Nell Williams of Tampa, Evangelist Betty Longmire, Tena Mae McCall and Dorothy and husband Tony McAroy, all of Atmore; five sons, Earl and wife Mary Bradley, Jesse James and wife Doris Bradley, William Augusta, and Tessell and wife Patricia Bradley, all of Atmore, Willie Gene and wife Shirley Bradley of Canbin Hill; 41 grandchildren and 62 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Mt. Gillead Baptist Church on Saturday, May 29, with Pastor Alfonzia Williams officiating. Burial took place at Fairview Cemetery.
Turner Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Maude Evans
Maude Evans, of Bay Minette, died Wednesday, May 26, 2004. She was 87 years old.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Trinity Chapel AME in Bay Minette on Monday, May 31.
Funeral services will be held at Trinity Chapel AME at 10 a.m., Monday, May 31.
Burial will take place at Mutual Aide Cemetery in Bay Minette.

Carrie Bruce
Ms. Carrie Creagh Bruce, of Atmore, died Sunday, May 23, 2004, at Atmore Nursing Care Center. She was 55 years old.
Bruce was a native of Dallas County and a resident of Atmore for many years. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her father, Rev. John Brooks Bruce; grandparents, Rev. Alfred and Rosetta Creagh Williams and brother, Alfred Bruce.
She is survived by her husband, Milton Bumpers; two daughters, Vanessa and husband Keith Kyles of Orlando and Cynthia Bruce of Winston-Salem, N.C.; mother, Ironza B. Montgomery of Atmore; one sister, Ann Johnson of Atmore and one brother, John B. Brooks Jr. of Atmore.
Funeral services were held at Gaines Chapel A.M.E. in Atmore on Saturday, May 29, with Pastor A.T. Davis officiating. Burial took place at Stallworth Cemetery.

Bertha Milton
Ms. Bertha Mae Milton, of Pensacola, died Thursday, May 20, 2004, in Sacred Heart Hospital. She was 75 years old.
Milton was a native of Wilcox County and a resident of Pensacola for many years. She worked as a cosmetologist.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Linda Chandler and Melanise Milton and a brother, Johnny Young.
She is survived by one daughter, Amelia White of Pensacola; seven sons, Johnnie, Willie Chatman, Willie, Jerrell, Michael, Stephen and Andre Milton all of Atmore; 36 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Greater Mt. Triumph Baptist Church on Wednesday, May 26, with Bishop Willie L. Williams officiating. Burial took place at Stallworth Cemetery.
