Obituaries for July 28, 2004 edition of the Atmore Advance
Wilmer Stanton
Mr. Wilmer Robert Stanton, 80, of Jay, Fla. died Thursday, July 22, 2004 at a local hospital.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was retired from Hendrix Tractor Company in Atmore. He was an ordained Baptist minister and avid fisherman.
Survivors include his wife, Maggie Jo Stanton of Jay; two daughters, Muriel and husband David Powell of Cuba, Ala., Gale Harmon of Butler; one brother, Donald and wife Voncille Stanton of Jay; one sister, Elizabeth and husband Jimmy Enfinger of Jay; two step daughters, Nora Hunsucker of Milton, Fla., Gladys Nobley of River Fall, Wis.; one step-son, Curtis Nobley of Milston; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceeded in death by his parents, Robert and Maggie Stanton; infant son, Earl Ray Stanton; and a great granddaughter, Saundra LeShae Harmon.
Services were held Sunday, at Jay Funeral Home. Burial followed Canoe United Methodist Cemetery in Canoe.
Jay Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
James Dortch
James Dortch, 74, of Atmore, died Thursday, July 22, 2004 at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center.
A viewing will be held Friday, July 30, at Robinson Funeral Chapel from noon to 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Robinson/Christian Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Israel McMillian
Israel McMillian of Atmore, died Saturday, July 24, 2004 at Atmore Community Hospital.
A viewing will be held Thursday, July 29, from noon to 6 p.m. at Robinson Funeral Chapel. Family hour will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 30 at 1 p.m. at Jones Holiness Church.
