Obituaries for August 4, 2004 edition of the Atmore Advance
James Allen "Old Dude" Dortch
Mr. James Allen "Old Dude" Dortch, 74, of Atmore, died July 22, 2004 at Mobile Infirmary Hospital.
He was born Sept. 13, 1929 in Wilcox County to Allen and Martha Dortch. He was a World War II veteran, a former employee of Swift Lumber Company and a retiree from Escambia County Public Works as a machine operator.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Francis Hicks and Julia Dortch.
He is survived by one daughter, Annette Marie Owens of Monroeville; two stepchildren, Horastin Burce Davis of Gulfport, Miss., and Jerry Nettles and wife Brenda of Monroeville; a devoted friend, Shellie Richardson of Frisco City; a devoted cousin, Willie James Finklea of Camden; one niece; Martha Ann Hill of Atlanta; three grandchildren, Ronald Jackson, Kelvin Owens and Montrel Nettles, all of Monroeville; five step-grandchildren; one great neice; two great nephews and a host of relatives and friends. Services were held Saturday, July 31 at Robinson &Christian Memorial Chapel.

Thelma Jackson
Mrs. Thelma Jackson, 67, of Atmore, died Monday, August 2, 2004 at Atmore Community Hospital.
Visitation will be 1 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, August 6 at Turner Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 7 at Greater Mt. Triumph, Rev. Willie Hawthorne pastor, and Rev. Anthony Quinn officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
Turner Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Ida Pearl Lambert
Mrs. Ida Pearl Lambert, 68, of Atmore, died Friday, July 30, 2004, at D.W. McMillan Hospital in Brewton.
Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, August 6 at Turner Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, August 7 at Second Mt. Triumph Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Hayes officiating. Burial will follow at Stallworth Cemetery.

Ray O. Smith
Mr. Ray O. Smith, 69, of Enon, died Saturday, July 31, 2004 at his residence.
He lived in the Enon community most of his life and was a member of Enon Baptist Church. He was a retired Monsanto chemical operator.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Smith of Goodway; one son, Kenneth Smith and wife Vanessa of Laurel, Miss.; one daughter, Donna Everette of Atmore; one brother, Melvin Smith of Thomasville; two sisters, Gladys Salter of Brewton and Bety Burch of Lenox; and five grandchildren.
Services were held Tuesday, August 3 at Enon Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Gibson and Rev. Edward Womack officiating. Burial followed at Enon Cemetery.
