Trey Davis, the Atmore and Tampa based chief financial officer of Z-Tel Technologies has been name its acting CEO after the departure of the company's CEO and chief operating officer left the company this month.
Davis said he expects to hold the dual position for the foreseeable future as Z-Tel embarks on a transformation process to provide voice, data and broadband services after a recent court ruling will allow the baby bells to charge unregulated prices for leasing their lines to carriers like Z-Tel.
Z-Tel also recently announced it signed a $15 million Standby Credit Facility with the 1818 Fund III LP. The fund will extend $5 million to Z-Tel immediately, and have another $10 million available.
So far, the company has not said how any of these changes would affect operations at the company's offices in Atmore, where it employs approximately 600 people. Davis said there would be announcements in the near future detailing the company's plans for the office.
Davis was appointed chief financial officer in June 2001. From January 2001 until that time, he served as senior vice president of budgeting and financial lanning, according to Z-Tel. Before that, he served as chief financial officer and vice president of planning for Touch 1 Communications, Inc. from 1995.
