Obituaries for November 14, 2004 edition of the Atmore Advance
Grover Lee Byrd
Mr. Grover Lee Byrd, age 90, of Bay Minette, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, in Mobile.
He was a retired Forest Ranger in Escambia County, Fla. Mr. Byrd was born in Mobile June 23, 1914 to the late Jack Byrd.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Cora F. Byrd.
Survivors are his son, Jeff Foster and wife Brenda of Molino, Fla.; a daughter, Mary Echols and husband Joseph of Semmes; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a sister, Mrs. Weaver.
Services were held Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Robert Porter officiating. Burial followed in Dry Springs Cemetery in Dry Springs, Fla.
The family received friends Friday evening at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.
Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of all arrangements.
Willie Clarence Smith
Mr. Willie Clarence Smith, 59, of Atmore, died Friday Nov. 5, 2004, in Atmore Nursing Care Center.
He worked as a rail road worker with CSX for more than 16 years. He also served in the U.S. Army for two years.
He is survived by his wife, Annice Smith of Detroit, Mich.; a daughter, Wanda Smith of Winterhaven, Fla.; three sons, Daryl Smith of Miami, Fla., Frederrick Smith and Erroll Smith, both of Winterhaven, Fla.; two brothers, Charles Smith of Cherokee, Fla. and Fred Smith of Elizabeth, Ky., and six grandchildren.
Mr. Smith graduated from Escambia County Training School. He furthered his education at Alabama A&M University.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at Greater Mt. Triumph Baptist Church in Atmore with the Rev. Willie Hawthorne officiating. Burial followed in Stallworth Cemetery.
Pallbearers were friends and family members.
Viewing and visitation were held Nov. 12, at Turner Funeral Chapel.
Turner Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Clausell Gandy
Clausell Gandy, 50, of Bay Minette, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004 at the University of South Alabama Hospital.
Robinson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
