It's time again for one of the biggest events around Atmore, the 34th annual Poarch Creek Indian Pow-Wow.
Thanksgiving Day will see a full day of events at the Poarch Creek reservation pow wow grounds. Every year, more than 10,000 people come from all over to witness the event.
This year, the pow-wow will be a one-day event instead of lasting two days.
Gates will open at 9 a.m. and the event will last until after 6 p.m.
The Philadelphia Choctaw Tri-community dancers will entertain the crowds starting at 9:30 and the Oklahoma Creek Stomp Dancers will start at 10:15 a.m.
The intertribal dance and dance competition will start at 1 p.m.
Admission is $2 per adult and $1 for children age 10 and under.
New this year will be Kiddie Korner with games and activities for kids of all ages.
"We wanted to try something different this year," said Sharon Dellmar, one of the pow-wow's organizers. "Each year, tribal members gather on this original Creek land to celebrate a cultural tradition."
Cash prizes will be awarded to dance winners. There will also be a drum competition and the tribe will select its princesses for the year.
There will be more than 100 booths of arts and crafts, barbeque, roasted corn, traditional turkey and dressing dinners will also be available.
The pow-wow grounds are located eight miles northwest of Atmore on Jack Springs Road.
