Edna E. Shell
WALNUT HILL, Fla. – Edna E. Shell, 92, passed away Feb. 24 at her residence. Funeral services were held on Feb. 26 from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Roy Chewning and the Rev. James Boyd officiating. Graveside services followed in Walnut Hill Baptist Cemetery in Walnut Hill, Fla.
Mrs. Shell was born on Sept. 16, 1912, in Brewton to the late Enoch and Bessie Baggett Johnson. She was owner of C.E. Shell Grocery and retired from the Escambia County Florida School System as a bus operator. She was a member of Walnut Hill Baptist Church, a member of Eastern Star and a member of Walnut Hill Domino Club.
Mrs. Shell's husband, Cary E. Shell Sr., preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, Howard (Nannette) Shell of Atmore and Cary E. (Frances) Shell Jr. of Pensacola, Fla.; one daughter, Linda (Martin) Tolliver of Pensacola, Fla.; two brothers, Edwin Johnson and Kenneth Johnson, both of Monroeville; 11 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and one great, great grandson.
Active pallbearers were Mrs. Shell's grandsons and great grandsons.
The family received friends Feb. 25 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.
Betty Augusta Blackburn
ATMORE – Mrs. Betty Augusta Blackburn, 81, passed away Feb. 21 in Atmore. Funeral services were held Feb. 24 from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Floyd Harris officiating. Graveside services followed in Oak Hill Cemetery in Atmore.
Mrs. Blackburn was born on Oct. 16, 1923 to the late Harvey and Clara Daniels Stacey. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Blackburn's husband, Howard Jack Blackburn, preceded her in death.
Survivors include three sons, Donnie Blackburn of Little River, Billy Blackburn of Atmore and Larry Blackburn of Mobile; on stepson, Norval (Jenny) Blackburn of Mobile; three daughters, Jean (Francis) Allred of Prattville, Brenda (Wendell) Sanders of Pensacola, Fla. and Linda (Wayne) Ward of Atmore; a special daughter-in-law, Wanda Blackburn of Bay Minette; two sisters, Lillian Johnson of Atmore and Eunice Fuller of Munson, Fla.; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Active pallbearers were Frankie Johnson, Michael Johnson, Terry Johnson, Austin Jones, Pete Sellers, Rex Holly and David McLeod.
Family received friends on Feb. 23 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.
Cordell J. Howell
CENTURY, Fla. – Cordell J. Howell, 78, passed away Feb. 23 in Pensacola, Fla. Funeral services were held Feb. 26 from the Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Henry Judy and the Rev. Brad Johnson officiating. Graveside services followed at McCurdy Cemetery.
Mr. Howell was a native and lifelong resident of Century, Fla., attended the First Baptist Church of Century and was a member of the Century Masonic Lodge. He was retired from Pensacola NAS after 30 years, a veteran of World War II serving his country in the Marine Corps, he enjoyed fishing and camping and most of all spending time with his family.
Survivors include, his wife of 58 years, Elouise Howell of Century, Fla.; three sons, James M. (Diane) Howell, Edward J. (Myrna) Howell and Robert G. (Dian) Howell, all of Jay, Fla.; one brother, Gordon W. Howell of Pensacola, Fla.; one sister, Doris Hancock of Pensacola, Fla.; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Active pallbearers were Terry Bryan, Sam Lowery, Bryan Howell, Jonathan Crites, David Howell, Philip Howell, Richard Howell and Preston Jr. Bryan.
Honorary pallbearers were John Blair, Bob Howington, Lloyd Barrow, Bill Crawley, Carl Godwin, Edsol Smith and Mike Barrow.
Family received friends on Feb. 25 at the Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
Mary Kate House Mason
LOVELOCK, Nev. – Mrs. Mary Kate House Mason, 97, passed away Feb. 19 at a Pershing County, Nev. Hospital. Funeral services were held on Feb. 25 at the Huxford Baptist Church with the Rev. Jesse Wood officiating. Graveside services followed at Huxford Baptist Cemetery.
Mrs. Mason was a native of Uriah, a former resident of Huxford and a resident of Lovelock, Nev. For the past 12 years. She was an avid gardener and attended the Huxford Baptist Church.
Mrs. Mason's husband, William A. Mason, preceded her in death.
Survivors include three sons, Glenn A. (Barbara) Mason of Lake Placid, Fla., Jerry W. (Jean) Mason of Atmore and Benny (Sandra) Mason of Huxford; one daughter, Mary Sue (Bill) Walker of Lovelock, Nev.; one brother, Gordon (Gladys) House of Molino; six grandchildren, Debra Walker, John Walker, Terry Mason, Tim Mason, Josh Mason and Judd Mason and seven great grandchildren.
Active pallbearers were Josh Mason, Judd Mason, Tim Mason, Don House, Joe Coker and Rodney Phillips.
Family received friends on Feb. 25 prior to Mrs. Mason's funeral at the Huxford Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Huxford Baptist building fund or cemetery.
Lilly Dacus
CLEVELAND, OHIO – Mrs. Lilly Dacus, 88, formerly of Blacksher passed away Feb. 20. Services will be announced by Turner Funeral Chapel at a later date.
