The Escambia County Blue Devils travelled to Foley Saturday afternoon for a double-header with Foley High School and left with twice the headaches.
Foley won the first game 6-2. The Blue Devils kept it close throughout, and even had a chance to blow the game wide open in the top of the sixth inning. The Blue Devils had the bases loaded with no outs, trailing only 3-2, and failed to score a run. Foley followed in the bottom of the sixth by scoring three runs to put the game out of reach.
Chris Graham pitched six innings for the Blue Devils. He took the loss while giving up six runs (four earned), eight hits, walking one and striking out two.
Darius English batted 1-4 for the Blue Devils. Teammate Chris Graham was 2-4 and scored a run. Corey Flowers batted 1-3 with an RBI.
The second half of the double-header would be no better for the Big Blue, as Foley pitched a shutout, 3-0
Jonathon McNeil pitched six innings for the Blue Devils, giving up three runs (two earned), four hits, and striking out five.
Darius English and Jonathon McNeil were both 1-3 with a double, and Chris Frost batted 1-3 for the Blue Devils as well.
"We did not have a good day at the plate either game," Nall said. "The bottom line is we did not get any hits when we needed them. We hit some balls hard but right at people. The wind was blowing hard and it held a few balls up that they caught. We have got to hit better with runners in scoring position."
Despite the tough weekend, Nall was still optimistic.
"We are not playing that bad," Nall said. "It is just the little things that we are doing wrong that (are) keeping us from winning games. Our defense played better these two games. We still have some areas that we need to work on but we're getting better."
