Linda Armstrong Smith
BARNETT CROSSROADS – Mrs. Linda Armstrong Smith, 52, passed away March 13 in Brewton. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on March 17 at the Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Tony Richburg and the Rev. Otis Thames officiating. Graveside services will follow at Pineview Cemetery.
Mrs. Smith was a native of Repton and a resident of Barnett Crossroads for the past 23 years. She was the treasurer of the Liberty Baptist Church in Pineview.
Mrs. Smith's mother, Melba Lee Armstrong, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, James Smith of Barnett Crossroads; her father, George Armstrong of Repton; son, Todd Smith of Birmingham; daughter, Tara Smith (Gary) Hollinger of Barnett Crossroads; sister, Debbie Waters of Excel and two grandchildren, Dawson "Termite" Hollinger and Colby "Tootie Bell" Hollinger.
Pallbearers will be Josh Bell, Robert Grissett, Zach Richburg, Bo Booker, Robert Gumapac and Rusty Carden.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Bell, Steve Smith and Jerry Waters.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. on March 16 at the Eastside Funeral Home.
Herbert Gordon Dixon Sr.
BREWTON – Mr. Herbert Gordon "Chuck" Dixon Sr., 61, passed away March 14 at a Pensacola Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on March 17 at the Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Wallace Reid, the Rev. Bobby Carnley and the Rev. J.B. Johnson officiating. Graveside services will follow at Byrneville Methodist Cemetery.
Mr. Dixon was a native of Mobile and a resident of the Tri-City area for the past 25 years. He was a loving husband, father and paw-paw and attended the Gospel Light Temple.
Mr. Dixon's brother, James Ronnie Dixon, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Alma Dixon of Brewton; five sons, David (Dovee) Dixon of Brewton, Herbert Dixon Jr. of Brewton; Eddie (Carolyn) Dixon of Rock Hill, S.C., Mark Dixon of Mobile and Kevin (Jessie) Dixon of Century, Fla.; two brothers, Robert Dixon of Kiln, Miss. and Charles Dixon of Mobile; three sisters, Mary Livermore, Carolyn Biggs and Barbara Harris, all of Mobile; eight grandchildren, Seth, Austin, Dillon, Beth, Dalton, Tyler, Madison and Kayla and his loving pet, Scooter.
Pallbearers will include Jeremy Dixon, John Harris, Daniel Morgan, Daniel Wood, Michael Browning and Ricky Tedder.
Honorary pallbearers will include Wesley Biggs, Byron Ratliff, Justin Harris, Cliff Emmons, Kevin Hunt and Dallas Ratliff.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. on March 16 at the Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
Lillian Rita Dial
KATY, Texas, Mrs. Lillian Rita Dial, 79, passed away March 13 in Hallettsville, Texas. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on March 17 from the Saint Robert's Bellarmine Church in Atmore with Father Jun officiating. Graveside services will follow in Oak Hill cemetery. A Rosary will be held at 5 p.m. the evening of March 16 from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.
Mrs. Dial was born in Baton Rouge, La. on April 10, 1925 to the late Henry Joseph and Maggie Mae Strong Gomez. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Dial's husband, Frank Dial, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her three sons, Frank Dial Jr. of St. Rose, La., Jack Dial of Baton Rouge, La. and James Dial of Kenner, La.; daughter, Mary Ann Svetlik of Katy, Texas; brother, Joseph Gomez of Arizona; two sisters, Mary Ellen Benson and Lorraine Dendinger both of LaCombe, La., eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on March 16.
Mary Alberta Knowles
FLOMATON – Mrs. Mary Alberta Knowles, 91, passed away March 11. Funeral services were held March 12 at Flomaton Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Homer Stewart officiating. Graveside services followed in Flomaton Cemetery.
Mrs. Knowles was a member of the Flomaton Pentecostal Holiness Church. Her loving husband, William Lois Knowles, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her sons, Kenny (Marcia) Knowles of Century, Fla. and Paul (Karen) Knowles of Flomaton; daughters, Sue Watson of Montgomery and Peggy (Paul) Cortichiato of Spanish Fort; brother Robert McKenzie of Pace, Fla.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Ronnie Knowles, Jeff Knowles, Kevin Knowles, Bill Babcock, Buster Crapps and Floyd Adams.
Elizabeth Adams-Bowens
PENSACOLA, Fla. – Mrs. Elizabeth Adams-Bowens, 62, passed away March 11 at Sacred Heart Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on March 19 at Greater Mount Triumph Baptist Church in Atmore.
Mrs. Adams-Bowens was a native of Atmore and a member of Great Mount Triumph Baptist Church.
Mrs. Adams-Bowens' body will lie in state beginning at noon on March 18 at Robinson Funeral Home in Atmore. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m.
Rachel Shoemaker
ATMORE – Rachel Shoemaker, 50, passed away March 14 at USA Knollwood Park Hospital in Mobile. Services will be announced at a later date by Turner Funeral Home Chapel.
