Tired of sitting around the house every weekend with nothing to do?
Tired of working through the weekend?
Well get off the couch, call in sick to work, and spend this Saturday at Tom Byrne Park for Mayfest.
"You can't miss this, especially if you have a family, because it is such a family event," Chamber director Emily Mims said. "There are activities, entertainment, and especially the arts and crafts."
There is a lot of entertainment at Mayfest for children of all ages
"This year we've got a go-fishing event, pony rides, train rides, carnival rides and lots of children's activities," Mims said.
There are also a lot of activities for adults including live entertainment and vendors as well as the Mutt Strut and the Beautiful Baby Contest.
"We've had a lot of calls from craftsmen and vendors," Mims said. "We got a rash of calls this morning and we got a lot of calls for the baby contest."
Applications for the baby contest will be taken until the morning of the event.
"People can still sign up at the office until Friday for $12," Chamber secretary Shelly Williams said. "If they wait until Saturday the price goes up $3. They have to register by 9 a.m. Saturday."
The baby contest is probably Mayfest's most popular event.
"It's very popular because it draws parents, grandparents and extended families," Mims said. "People like babies; especially their own. It is popular enough that we can just about shut everything else down while it's going on."
Mayfest is sure to be memorable for everyone.
"Events like this are really memory makers for kids," Mims said. "I have lots of young adults share memories of Mayfest every year."
To help you remember Mayfest the chamber will be selling souvenir Mayfest t-shirts.
"We're selling t-shirts; $12 for regular sizes, and XX and up for $14," Mims said.
Mims said supplies are running out.
"We usually try to time it to where we run out for Mayfest," Mims said. "We're on track to do that."
All that's needed for a good, fun, family weekend is good weather.
"We are just hoping for a beautiful day," Mims said. "This is the 32nd year for Mayfest. It's a good family event."
