Greenlawn Pharmacy is throwing a party and everyone is invited.
Greenlawn, in an effort to keep Atmore healthy, has scheduled a community health fair for May 27.
"We invite everybody to come out and participate," Greenlawn pharmacist Jim Justice said. "We're concerned about everybody's health and we want to offer residents a chance to learn about proper healthcare and to find out if they are at risk for diabetes or blood pressure-related illnesses."
Theresa Booker, a health care employee, was one of the event's coordinators.
"We're going to have a nurse checking them for blood pressure and blood sugar," Booker said. "We want them to know if they come in they will get a free blood sugar check and a free blood pressure check."
The event has been in the works for some time.
"It was kind of a joint effort between the home health care employees, Becky Brown, Rufus Watson, Shirley Zimmerman, Teresa Booker and Cheryl Wooten, that's our Greenlawn Home Health Supply staff," Booker said. "We've been planning it for a couple of months. Last year we did a little customer appreciation day and this year we thought we'd do a little to educate people on their health."
There will also be representatives of several other healthcare organizations.
"The American Cancer Society, The American Heart Association, and a couple of the local nursing agencies and both ambulance companies are going to be here so people can go through their ambulances," Booker said. "The YMCA will also have representatives here."
The event should have something to interest anyone.
"We're having door prizes, the grand door prize is going to be a 27-inch color TV, and we're going to have some blood pressure monitors as door prizes," Booker said. "I think some other agencies are coming in. We hope for it to be a nice event. We're going to have some refreshments as well."
Booker hopes everyone will attend.
"We're real excited," she said. "We hope to have a really good turnout. We hope to answer people's healthcare questions if they have any that day. We want to invite everyone to come and invite a friend or family member and have a good afternoon."
