After a rain-filled week washed out Atmore Cal Ripken and Babe Ruth Baseball this week, teams were left in a crunch to complete all their games in time for the season's finish this Thursday.
Murray Johnson, district commissioner for Babe Ruth Baseball, said he and the coaches of each league met Thursday night to discuss ways to complete the season, and had a tentative schedule mapped out for the weekend.
"We're playing tonight," Johnson said Friday, referring to games already scheduled for Friday night due to the league taking off Saturday and Monday for Memorial Day weekend. "We'll be starting with (Advanced) Babe Ruth tomorrow. As of right now, we're going to play four minor league games and three major league games."
In addition, Babe Ruth baseball will play two games, at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Saturday.
For parents with minor and/or major league schedules, a marker may be in order, as some changes have been made to the original.
Friday's schedule did not change for the minors, but Saturday saw a game between the Cardinals and the Tigers moved, and the addition of games between the Cardinals and the Braves; Cardinals and the Eagles (moved from this Thursday); and Cubs and Lions to go along with the scheduled Lions/Braves match up. Monday's schedule did not change, and Tuesday will see the Cardinals play twice, first against the Cubs and then against the Tigers. Thursday's schedule is not yet finalized.
The major leagues are seeing fewer changes, with three games being made up Saturday at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., and 1 p.m. The Warriors and Tigers, A's and Red Sox, and Rangers and Cardinals faced off during those match ups.
Babe Ruth Baseball has not yet announced any plans to make up its games.
