Everyday people go missing in America, and everyday an American goes missing somewhere in the world.
Why do some people receive international media attention and others fail to even earn a brief mention in a newspaper?
The reason is marketability. If a person has an image that will sell papers or keep people glued to their television they instantly become noteworthy.
Unfortunately the squeaky wheel gets the oil.
Bodies are almost always found in high-profile cases. Meanwhile the rest of us are left searching for our loved-ones because they lacked what was needed to earn their 15 minutes of fame.
If the case of Linda McGhee had been able to make national news, every agency in the country would have been beating Atmore's door down to solve the case.
While the Sheriff's Department has done an excellent job and the FBI and Alabama Bureau of Investigation have done their part, imagine where the case would be today with more media attention.
