William Cleveland Browning
ATMORE – Mr. William Cleveland Browning, 69, of Huxford passed away June 14 in Atmore. Funeral services were held Friday, June 17, at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. LaDon Shumock officiating. Graveside services followed in Shiloh Cemetery in Frisco City. The family received friends Thursday at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home.
Mr. Browning was a native of Frisco City, and has resided in Escambia County for the past 30 years. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Baptist Church. Mr. Browning was the owner of the Frosty Acres Lounge and Browning's Drive-In. He was a strong supporter of youth sports in Monroe and Escambia Counties. He is survived by his wife, Earnestine Browning of Huxford; three daughters, Brenda Browning, Kalen Browning, and Kathy Browning, all of Houston, Texas; a step-daughter, Tracey Davison of Atmore; a son, Keith Browning of Vicksburg, Miss.; a step-son, Greg McGhee of Atmore; two brothers, Condie Browning and Raymond Browning, both of Excel; three sisters, Jeanette Sullivan of Galveston, Texas, Katherine Shumock of Frisco City, and Betty Jay of Uriah; four grandchildren, Chris Kimmel, Kaylee Davidson, Joseph Beard, and Jenifer Browning; and three step-grandchildren, Dustin McGhee, Dylan McGhee, and Chasity McGhee.
Arrangements are being handled by Monroe Chapel Funeral Home.
Dan Fiest Boatwright
ATMORE – Mr. Dan Fiest Boatwright, 80, of Nokomis passed away Thursday, June 16 in Atmore. Funeral services were held Saturday, June 18 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Gipson officiating. Graveside services followed at Sullivan Cemetery. The family received friends Friday, June 17, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.
Mr. Boatwright was employed with Swift Lumber Co. in Sales. He was born in Baldwin County to the late Robert and Clara English Boatwright. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lola Matilda Boatwright, and his son, Thomas F. Boatwright. He is survived by two sons, William E. Boatwright and his wife, Sandra, of Atmore, and Don H. Boatwright and his wife, Charlotte, of Atmore; a daughter-in-law, Dianne Boatwright of Atmore; two brothers, Ellison Hollingsworth of Summerdale and T.B. Boatwright of Perdido; one sister, Rosie Crews of Pineville, Fla.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Gussie S. Wilson
ATMORE – Mrs. Gussie S. Wilson, 86, passed away Tuesday, June 14 in Atmore. Funeral services were held Friday, June 17 at Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Gladden Mothershed and Rev. Mike Grindle officiating. Graveside services followed at Oak Hill Cemetery. The family received friends Thursday, June 16 at Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
Mrs. Wilson was a native of Nokomis, and a lifelong resident of Atmore. She loved gardening and fishing, was President of the Atmore Friendship Club, a member of the Joy Riders and American Legion, an avid bowler, volunteered at the nursing home and hospital and attended Westside Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Floyd Wilson, Sr. She is survived by two sons, Charles D. Wilson and his wife, Jenny, of Belle Vista, Ark., and Floyd Wilson, Jr., and his wife, Beth, of Atmore; her daughter, Esther Dorth and her husband, Duane, of Bratt; a brother, Joe Sanders of Atmore; a sister, Ruby Downey of Defuniak Springs, Fla.; four grandchildren, Cheryl Champion, Lori Curran, Angela Rowell, and Jeremy Dortch, and eight great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Randy Powell, Johnny Burkett, Jack Sharpless, Rodney Owens, Wesley Hughes, and Alvin Owens. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Friendship Club, Regina Gohagin, Marie Owens, Ann Howell, Geneva Wearren, Alma Myles, Jean Myrick, Merle Bishop, Jo Stanley and Estelle Watts.
Mattie Lou Hawkins
PENSACOLA – Mrs. Mattie Lou Hawkins, 90, of Atmore passed away June 9 at Baptist Hospital. Funeral services were held Friday, June 17 at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Atmore with Rev. Monroe Tucker officiating. Graveside services followed at Fairview Cemetery in Atmore. The family received friends Thursday at Turner Funeral Chapel.
Mrs. Hawkins was a native of Wilcox County and a resident of Atmore for many years. She was a member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church and was a housekeeper. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus Hawkins; her parents, Luck and Carrie Brown; two daughters, Ruth Phillips and Ruby Lee Brown; and three sisters, Carrie Rivers, Rosie Lee Brown, and Alberta Dortch. She is survived by four daughters, Rosie Dailey and Marie Hawkins and her husband, Willie, of Atmore, Katie Hall of Detroit, Mich., and Yovonne Hawkins of Dayton, Ohio; five sons, Luck Brown, Climmie Brown and his wife, LeElla, and Aubrey Hawkins, all of Atmore, J.C. Brown and his wife, Earnestine, of Ft. Meyers, Fla., and Dan Smith and his wife, Emma, of Selma; 55 grandchildren, 143 great-grandchildren, and a host of great-great-grandchildren.

Thomas Robinson, Sr.
ATMORE – Mr. Thomas Robinson, Sr., 80, of Atmore passed away Friday, June 10. Funeral services were held Saturday, June 18 at Gaines Chapel AME Church in Atmore with Rev. Joseph Williams officiating. Graveside services followed at Stallworth Cemetery in Atmore.
Mr. Robinson was born February 28, 1925 to the late Mr. R.C. and Roberta Robinson. He confessed Christ at an early age. He was a faithful member of the Methodist Church in Mobile. He moved to Atmore to care for his father and became a member of Gaines Chapel AME Church, where he served as a trustee for many years. He was united in holy matrimony to the late Emma Lee William Robinson. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mae Ollie Robinson and Alice Robinson; and two brothers, Joseph Robinson and Willie Allen Robinson. He is survived by his three children, David E. Robinson and his wife, Saddie, of New York, and Thomas L. Robinson and his wife, Edna, and Rev. Dane C. Robinson and his wife, Mary, of Atmore; three sisters, Emma Nelson and Jettie Robinson, both of Wetumpka, and Willie Mae Welch and her husband, Mack, of Atmore; six brothers, Edgar Robinson and his wife, Mary, of Detroit, Mich., Charlie Robinson and his wife, Anita, of Baltimore, Md., R.C. Robinson and his wife, Dorothy, and Jessie Robinson and his wife, Betty, of Atmore, Frank Robinson and his wife, Ethel, of Union Springs, and William Young of Montgomery; and one aunt, Ophelia Shepard, of Wetumpka; 13 grandchildren, and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who loved him dearly. He also played a special role in the lives of Larell McCants, Jessy James Robinson, R.C. Robinson, Jr., and Willie Mae Welch, all of Atmore.
Mr. Robinson's grandchildren served as pallbearers.
