Since focusing heavily on contact drills late last week, coach Heath Gibson and the Escambia Academy Cougars have spent the early part of this week learning the specifics of their offense.
As is the case with any team, the defense always learns faster than the offense. Gibson, however, was especially pleased with the progress his defense has made in just under two weeks of practice.
The offense, however, is a major concern for Gibson. The Double Wing T offense is predicated on precise timing, and even a slight problem can stop a play before it starts. Gibson said that would be the primary focus.
Despite trying to work out the kinks, Gibson had been quite pleased with two of his offensive starters.
Over the course of the next few days of practice, the offense will remain the focus.
With two weeks remaining before Faith Academy comes to town for the season opener, Gibson was not itching for the game to get here.
