Although earlier published reports stated Hurricane Katrina could be as devastating to Atmore as Hurricane Dennis, the storm's path shifted early Sunday morning putting New Orleans, LA. in its cross hairs.
According to Randy McKee, meteorologist in charge at the National Weather Service Center in Mobile, Atmore should receive heavy amounts of rain Sunday evening and throughout the day and evening Monday with sustained winds between 30-45 mph with gusts that could reach as high as 65 mph.
McKee said Atmore residents should anticipate power outages and some wind damage as a result of Katrina.
Precautions should still be taken in case Katrina's path shifts again and threatens Atmore to a greater extent.
