One man remains hospitalized and another injured following a domestic shooting that occurred early Tuesday morning in the Freemanville community.
According to reports from the Escambia County Sheriff's Office (ECSO), an argument escalated at 7 a.m. between residents of a household involving Robbie Montgomery and Mitchell Lett on Atmosphere Road.
According to Sheriff Grover Smith, Montgomery fired a 20-gauge shotgun striking Lett in the upper right torso. After the shooting, Lett fled to a neighbor's house, which was Montgomery's brother. Lett was later transported to Atmore Community Hospital's emergency room where he was then transported by LifeFlight to Pensacola.
According to ECSO Major Mike Murphy, Montgomery was also transported to the hospital by a private vehicle where he was treated and released.
"This case is still being investigated," Murphy said.
No arrests have been made and the case will be presented to the Escambia County Grand Jury in October.
"We're are seeking the council of the district attorney's office to get a recommendation of what charges should be filed against the people involved in this incident," Escambia County Sheriff Grover Smith said.
