The Atmore Chamber of Commerce sponsored Business Before Hours for chamber members, Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2005 at Annie's Community Cup on Main Street.
About 30 business owners and associates enjoyed assorted muffins and coffee as they participated in a presentation given by an Insurance Consultant.
Rebecca King, with Cover Your Assets, was a former catastrophic adjuster. Rebecca shared important information regarding personal and business insurance policies. Cover Your Assets is a personal property management service that offers clients various package options to document, record, and store personal property inventories as well as provide insurance counseling.
King began her presentation by asking the group how many of them actually read their insurance policies.
"We don't take care of the one asset we spend much of our life purchasing and paying for." King said.
King emphasized that it is especially important for business owners to understand their policies and what they have. King also pointed out the issues such as debris and tree removal that are not covered on most policies as well as flood insurance.
"Most people just assume that it is in their coverage," King said," You have to buy specific flood insurance to have coverage."
According to King, insurance companies want a list of everything that was lost or damaged. She advises everyone to inventory his or her property. One of the best ways to do this would be to photograph any and all items of any value for proof. King also encouraged the participants to keep receipts of valuable items and to store such documents somewhere other than home.
A representative from SAFE Archives and Shredding was also on hand to give a brief overview of the services offered to business owners and associates.
