An accidental shooting Saturday morning has left a local man in serious, but stable condition.
According to Escambia County sheriff Grover Smith, officers received a call around 5:30 a.m. Saturday morning, Oct. 22 reporting a gunshot victim.
Samuel Dewayne Rayborn, 41 of 95 Stoker Road in Atmore suffered a gunshot wound to his lower chest. The victim was conscious upon Escambia County Sheriffs Deputy Kizer's arrival.

"The victim told us that the gun discharged on its own." Sheriff Smith said, "He told Poarch Policeman, who arrived on scene before us the same story. Mr. Rayborn is very lucky to be alive."
Rayborn remains in serious but stable condition at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, Fla.
Kelley's Ambulance transported Rayborn to ACH and was later life flighted to Baptist Hospital.
The Poarch Police Department was the first to the scene followed by ECSO and the Atmore Police Department. The case is still under investigation.
