Tuesday afternoon the Alabama Department of Forensic Science Office in Mobile revealed that foul play was involved in the death of a Stockton man.
At 8:42 p.m. last Friday night, the Atmore Police Department and Atmore Fire &Rescue Department responded to a single-vehicle automobile accident on 4th Street in Atmore. Upon arrival, rescue personnel discovered a 2003 Dodge Durango that had apparently left the roadway and struck a stump causing it to overturn while traveling east.
"We've heard several different reports, but right now we're still trying to determine the facts of the case," APD police chief Jason Dean said. "We're still investigating."
The victim of the accident, a 41-year-old white male identified as Thomas Henry Brown, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Atmore Ambulance Service transported Brown to Atmore Community Hospital before being transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science for an autopsy after officials were informed there might be more to Brown's death than the injuries sustained from the automobile accident.
The APD is working in conjunction with the Alabama Bureau of Investigation on the case, which is being investigated as a homicide. No other information regarding the case was released while the investigation continues.

Another one-vehicle accident claimed the life of a Miami man in Escambia Count, Ala. earlier Friday afternoon.
According to the Alabama State Troopers Office in Evergreen, Emilliano Bretado Zapata, 30, was driving a 1994 Ford Mustang when the accident occurred at 3:15 p.m. about 15 miles west of Flomaton on Interstate 65. Zapata was transported to Pensacola Baptist Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
