Despite a slow start, the Atmore United Fund picked up some steam since last month and has now surpassed $90,000 and it's goal.
"I'm very pleased with the drive," United Fund president Shep Marsh said. "I'm excited that we had the kind of response we did. It will certainly put us in a better position to respond to the request we had."
This year's goal for the drive was $75,000. Although it has already been reached, Marsh said there are still several agencies the United Fund Board is waiting to hear from. Donations are also still encouraged, especially if businesses want to claim their contribution on their 2005 taxes.
As for the requests received, Marsh said the Board will first review them on January 11, but it could take the entire month to finalize the allocations.
"We can't review the request until we know what we have to work with," Marsh said.
