Five injured in two-vehicle wreck Friday

Five people were injured in a two-car crash Friday afternoon on Jack Springs Road in Atmore.
Emily Boutwell, 18, of Atmore was traveling south on Jack Springs Road when a two-door Mitsubishi Eclipse driven by Nikki Merritt, 17, of Atmore pulled into her path.
According to witnesses, Merritt was turning onto Jack Springs Road off of Smith Dairy Road when Boutwell's four-door Ford Escape hit her in the driver's side.
Boutwell and her two passengers, Daniela Boyington, 16, and Matthew Salter, 23, were transported to Atmore Community Hospital where they were treated for minor injuries sustained in the accident.
"They had just left the Fast Lane Convenience Store where I work," Belinda Boyington, mother of the victim said. "Daniela came in to get money and they were headed back to Atmore."
Merritt's mother, Cindy Merritt, 37, was a passenger in her car. According to Cleveland Brown, Merritt's father, Cindy suffered several fractured ribs. Her daughter was still being evaluated and undergoing x-rays at press time.
The Atmore Fire &Rescue Department, Atmore Police Department, Poarch Volunteer Fire Department and Kelley's Ambulance responded to the call given at 4:11 p.m.
