Wrecks ravage roadways

Area roadways were littered with three different traffic accidents that sent four people to the hospital on Monday.
A two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Medical Park Drive and Horner Street was the first reported crash of the busy afternoon at approximately 2:18 p.m.
Jack Thomas, 54 of Jackson, Ala. was traveling north on Medical Park Drive in a 1990 Plymouth Voyager when he came to the intersection of Medical Park and Horner Street and proceeded through the red light causing the 2000 Ford Explorer driven by Cynthia Odom of Atmore to strike his vehicle.
Odom's vehicle struck the van's rear passenger side causing the van to overturn onto the driver's side. According to Odom, the van spun around on the ground after overturning and came to rest facing south on Medical Park.
Firefighters with Atmore Fire Department were called in to assist the occupants of the overturned Plymouth Voyager out of the vehicle.
Atmore Ambulance transported the driver, Thomas and his passengers, Lucinda Thomas, 70 and Bobby Adams, 34 to Atmore Community Hospital.
Within an hour of clearing the intersection of Medical Park and Horner, APD was dispatched to another two-vehicle accident at the intersection of East Craig and Beck Streets. According to the driver, Willie Dixon, he was traveling south on Beck Street in a Plymouth Voyager when he was hit by a two-door sports car driven by an unknown female.
The car was traveling west on Craig when it made impact with the passenger side of Dixon's van sending him in a spin that ended with his vehicle facing North Beck Street. Kelley's Ambulance transported the driver, who was not identified at press time, to Atmore Community Hospital.
The Walnut Hill Volunteer Fire Department received the third and last call of the day at 4:30 p.m. for yet another two-vehicle accident located on Highway 97.
According to WHVFD chief, Robert Stewart a Nissan SUV was traveling south on Highway 97 when it hit a body of water and hydroplaned causing the vehicle to side swap an approaching van.
The van from We Care Center in Atmore was traveling north on Highway 97 when it was struck by the SUV. The impact caused the van to overturn on its side.
