Donations needed for monument
The American Legion is sponsoring a Veteran's Monument to be erected in Atmore. Our goal is to obtain a space for display of this monument in Heritage Park. What more appropriate place to show that we recognize where our TRUE heritage comes from. Without the veterans who gave their time, as well as many gave their health and some the ultimate sacrifice of their lives, we would not be able to celebrate the freedom that we have today.
We are seeking individuals as well as businesses that would like to participate in making this memorial a reality. At this time, we are simply seeking pledges to determine the amount of support for such a monument.
The cost of the basic monument is estimated to be about $9600. Plus a fee for any lettering that is required. We want to do this in such a way that additions can be made to it at a later time. Ours will be similar to the one pictured, which is the one located in Brewton.
We think that this is an appropriate addition to this community who had loved and supported their veterans in the past and continue to do so. We have had many pledges from those who we have approached with this, but want to give everyone an opportunity to participate if they desire.
