The Escambia Academy Lady Cougars waited until the second inning to get started, but the end result was a 15-0 victory over Wilcox Academy.
EA (6-2) pummeled Wilcox in the second and third innings, scoring seven runs in each. And they did all this after being retired in order in the first inning. EA head coach Darrell Jackson said there was not much to say after the win, except it is always good to get a win.
"We were able to get all our girls some playing time and overall it was a good team effort. We only committed one error and we scored 15 runs."
Jackson said the score was 15-0, but the Lady Cougars only got six hits in the ball game. Lori Bonds and Ashley Smith both went 2-for-3 at the plate. Smith had two doubles and three RBI while Bonds had one double and one RBI.
Bonds (2-0) also picked up the win on the mound for EA. She threw a four innings and allowed only two hits, while striking out five batters and walking two.
Jaime Drew and Rachel Ellis got the other two hits for the Lady Cougars.
"Jaime and all the other girls showed patience at the plate after that first inning," Jackson said. "I always encourage them to be selective at the plate and they did that and seized the opportunities to score when there were offered."
The Lady Cougars face Jackson at home in a district game Thursday in Canoe at 3:30 p.m.
