Shane Reid took the reins of the Northview Chiefs boy's basketball team last year and led them to an 11-12 record in what a lot of people considered a transition year. He wants to make sure his Chiefs continue to improve and he wants to accomplish that goal during the summer.
To do this, Reid and the Chiefs basketball team will host a 3-on-3 double elimination basketball camp on April 1. Teams can be three people or four people with the fourth person acting as a substitute.
The camp will be held in the Carver-Century gym and will cost $10 per team member and the proceeds will go towards sending the Chiefs to the T.R. Miller and Florida State basketball camps in the summer.
"We are doing this fundraiser so our boys can go to these camps and get experience in the game of basketball outside of this area," Reid said. "These camps will be a good time for them to bond as a team and form that chemistry that will lead to success on the court next year."
The 3-on-3 tournament will consist of six divisions for athletes to participate in. There will be a division for middle school boys, middle school girls, high school boys, high school girls, adult men and adult women.
Reid said the Chiefs have participated in the T.R. Miller camp in Brewton before, but he was not sure if the team had gone to the FSU camp in the past.
"I went to the Duke and Clemson camps last summer and they were great," Reid said. "The ACC is one of the top conferences in the nation and this will be a great opportunity for our guys."
The NHS athletes will travel to Brewton for the T.R. Miller camp July 2-4 and go down to Tallahassee July 18-21 for the FSU camp.
The cost of the FSU camp is $98 per camper and each team in the camp is guaranteed 10 games in a tournament style format. The T.R. Miller camp will cost $20 per camper and seven games are guaranteed to each camper.
