The South side of Atmore has seen many exciting new changes recently. The current work on the building adjacent to Fred's is no exception and has many people wondering what else is to come.
Burke's Outlet will be relocating to the space from its present location in the Winn-Dixie shopping center within a month.
"We are hoping to do our soft opening around the first of May," Bill Webster, director of sales Promotions for Burkes said. " We are leaving our less than 10,000 square foot space and are relocating next to Fred's in a much larger 16,5000 square foot space."
Due to the increase in size, the outlet store plans to add numerous new departments for customers.
"We will have a lot more to offer in shoes, and home items with this move," Webster said. "This move will be more convenient for our shoppers and we needed the bigger space to meet the needs of the business."
With an increase in size, an increase in employees will also be seen as the store relocates to Lindberg Avenue.
Burke's Outlet was founded in 1915 on the Florida Gulf Coast under the name Beall's. The employee/family owned company took on the name Burke's in Alabama and surrounding areas.
The company now has more than 465 outlets between Florida and California, going as far north as Tennessee and North Carolina.
There are 21 stores in Alabama alone, with one opening in Brewton just a few weeks ago. The company also has 75 department stores in the state of Florida.
