Drugs are a possible factor in a one-vehicle accident that occurred on South Main Street Thursday afternoon according to officials.
Adam Yadon, 23 of Pensacola, Fla., was traveling south on Main Street in a 1999 white Ford Explorer Sport when he apparently lost control of the vehicle as he entered a curve.
Yadon traveled approximately 100 feet before striking a utility pole and then continued to travel 20 more feet before spinning the vehicle around and hitting the State of Alabama welcome sign according to Officer Scott Walden.
Firefighters with the Atmore Fire and Rescue Department worked for more than 10 minutes to free Yadon from the wreckage using the Jaws of Life.
Kelley's Ambulance Service then transported him to Atmore Community Hospital. His condition was unknown at press time.
After freeing the driver, the Atmore Police Department conducted a search of the vehicle uncovering several items of drug paraphernalia and a handful of various prescription pills. The results of a toxicology report were unavailable at press time.
The accident is still under investigation.
