Warriors take down Red Sox

The United Bank Warriors took care of business May 1 as they defeated the Joey's Furniture Red Sox 11-2 in four innings in Atmore Cal Ripken Major League play. A seven-run second inning fueled the Warriors victory.
At the plate for the Warriors Brett Helton led the way as he scored three runs in the game. Dalton Daniels was 1-for-1 with two runs scored. Brandon Metzler was 1-for-3 with one run scored. Wesley Jefferson drew a walk and scored one run. Brodie Amas scored two runs. Tyler King, Paul Arnold and Hunter McKay also added one run.
Demetric Henderson pitched two innings for the Warriors and Helton pitched three innings.
Shelby Carter led the Red Sox with two walks and one run scored. Keone McCants scored the other Red Sox run and also drew two walks. Logan Smith, Tanner Smith and Colby Smith all pitched two innings for the Red Sox.
Atmore Rotary Club Tigers 10 – Lions Club Cardinals 4
In the second game of the day, the Tigers' James Dean helped his team on both sides of the game. He was 1-for-3 at the plate with a double and two runs scored and he threw a complete game on the mound, striking out 10 Cardinals on the way to victory.
Jaylen Henry also added two runs and a 1-for-3 performance with a single and a walk. Bryant Lane entered the game in the fourth inning and was hit by a pitch and scored a run. Colby White and Bo Ramer entered the game in the fourth as well and had a walk and a run scored each. Dustin Wilson, Tristan McAnally and Tacorian Brown added a run apiece.
For the Cardinals, Tanner Boatwright scored two of the team's four runs and threw five innings on the mound. Will Swartzendruber and Cameron Murphy scored the other two runs. Swartzendruber and Cole Boatwright were both1-for-3 at the plate.
Nicholas Linam and Darren McGhee each threw one inning on the mound.
Cardinals 10 – Red Sox 3
The Cardinals kicked the 2006 Cal Ripken League season off April 29 at 10 a.m. with a seven-run first inning. Darren McGhee and Jordan Sasser scored two runs each and Will Swartzendruber, Tanner Boatwright, Cole Boatwright, Nicholas Linam, Zach Ingram and Aaron Purvis all scored one run. Sasser had three walks.
Linam pitched all six innings for the win.
The Red Sox had a two-hit game from Coby Smith and Clayton Vickrey, Logan Smith and Austin Chafer all scored one run in the game.
First National Bank &Trust Athletics 12 – Warriors 2
Tanner Kirk led the A's over the Warriors with a five-inning complete game on the mound and a 1-for-2 performance at the plate with two runs scored in the 12:30 p.m. game. The Athletics scored seven runs in the second inning on their way to the victory.
Fred Knight, Malcolm Black and Brian Rolin also scored two runs for the A's. Thomas Moore had two walks and one run scored. Domonique Hubert, Trey McGhee and Michael Glick also added one run scored for the Athletics.
Brett Helton and Dakota Goins scored one run apiece for the Warriors. Helton threw four innings on the mound and Demetric Henderson hurled two innings.
Tigers 12 – Atmore VFW Rangers 2
The Tigers opened their season in dominating fashion Saturday. Dustin Wilson and James Dean each scored three runs and Wilson pitched all four innings in the mercy-rule shortened game. Dean ripped a triple in the fourth inning.
Jaylen Henry and Tristan McAnally each scored two runs. Tacorian Brown and Blake Quimby each scored one run.
For the Rangers, Austin Albritton and Raheem Bishop each scored one run. Harold Harrison was 1-for-2.
Tywon Dixon threw three innings on the mound and Brett McCraney tossed two innings.
