An Atmore man received first and second degree burns over a portion of his body in a one-vehicle crash Saturday.
Timothy Cooper, 30, was driving a Nissan 300 on Martin Luther King Drive, when he apparently lost control and slid into a ditch according to officials.
The Atmore Fire and Rescue Department responded to a call at about 1:30 a.m.
"When we got the call, we were told that the driver was trapped in the car and was on fire," Atmore Fire and Rescue Chief Gerry McGhee said. "The driver was not trapped and had gotten out of the car by the time we arrived. The car was on fire however."
According to a witness, the victim received burns on his forearms and legs as well as a cut on his back. He was transported by Life Flight to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, Fla.
Alabama State Trooper Dacosta is still investigating the accident.
