Warriors lose battle with A's

This past Saturday was Mayfest, Atmore's annual spring celebration, and the Atmore Cal Ripken League held their opening ceremonies during all the fun. Games started at 10:30 as Miss Bambino, Walton Nichols, threw out the first pitch.
The First National Bank &Trust Athletics thumped the United Bank Warriors 13-2 in the first game of the Major League day.
Thomas Moore scored three runs for the A's and went 2-for-3 with a triple. Tyler Randolph also roped a triple in the game and he scored one run. Tanner Kirk, Malcolm Black, and Fred Knight all scored two runs each.
Dominique Hubert Trey McGhee and Blake Presley also scored one run. Kirk pitched a complete game and struck out 11 batters on the mound.
For the Warriors Dalton Daniel scored two runs and Demetric Henderson scored the other run.
Atmore Rotary Club Tigers 11 – Atmore VFW Rangers 6
In the 12:30 game on Saturday James Dean led the Tigers to victory with two runs scored and a 2-for-3 performance at the plate. Tacorian Brown and Jaylen Henry each added two runs scored.
Joseph Pearson, Dustin Wilson, Colby White, Mason Caraway and Judd Arnold contributed one run scored each. Blake Quimby threw three innings on the mound and Tristan McAnally and Dean threw two innings each.
Tywon Dixon led the Rangers with a 2-for-3 showing at the plate with two triples and one run scored. Bo Bishop, Austin Albritton, Brice McGhee, Michael Little and A. J. Matthews added one run scored each.
Bishop pitched four innings and Kyler McGlotheren threw two innings on the mound.
Atmore Lions Club Cardinals 4 – Joey's Furniture Company Red Sox 2
In the final game of the day for the Major Leaguers, Nicholas Linam dominated the Red Sox. He finished the game with 10 strikeouts in six innings of work and only allowed four Red Sox hitters to reach base. Two reached with a hit, one on an error and one was hit by a pitch.
At the plate for the Cardinals, Tanner Boatwright, Darren McGhee, David Landis and Linam each scored one run.
Logan Smith and Keone McCants each scored one run for the Red Sox. Tanner Smith pitched four innings and Clayton Vickrey threw one inning on the mound.
Atmore Lions Club Cardinals 9 – First National Bank &Trust Athletics 0
The Cardinals scored all of their runs in the first two innings of their game against the A's May 4. The A's were never able to mount a comeback en route to the big win for the Cardinals.
Darren McGhee, Cole Boatwright and David Landis all scored two runs apiece and Tanner Boatwright, Will Swartzendruber and Aaron Purvis added one run each.
Nicholas Linam threw four innings and Jordan Sasser tossed two innings on the mound.
For the A's Malcolm Black was 2-for-3 at the plate. Michael Glick threw two innings and Tanner Kirk threw three innings on the mound.
United Bank Warriors 9 – Atmore VFW Rangers 7
In the 7:30 p.m. game on May 4 the Warriors took care of business with a five-run fourth inning to put the Rangers away.
Leadoff hitter Brett Helton scored three runs for the Warriors. Demetric Henderson, Paul Arnold, Brodie Amos, Wesley Jefferson, Chris Mecks and Dakota Goins scored one run each.
Arnold threw five innings on the mound.
The A's had a chance when they took a lead with a four-run top of the fourth inning. Tywon Dixon scored two runs and Harold Harris, Bo Bishop, Austin Shuttlesworth, Brice McGhee and Raheem Dyer each scored one run. Dixon pitched four innings and Harris threw two innings on the mound.
Joey's Furniture Red Sox 3 – Atmore VFW Rangers 0
Logan Smith, Shelby Carter and Keone McCants each scored a run for the Red Sox. Smith hit a triple in the game and Tanner Smith cracked a double. Chance Jackson pitched a complete game one-hitter for the Red Sox, recording seven strikeouts.
Tywon Dixon recorded that one hit for the Rangers and Bo Bishop threw five innings and Harold Harrison threw one inning on the mound.
Atmore Rotary Club Tigers 11 – First National Bank &Trust Athletics 4
Jaylen Henry blasted the first home run of the Cal Ripken season in the third inning and scored two runs. Tristan McAnally and Dustin Wilson also scored two runs in the game and James Dean, Tacorian Brown, Joseph Pearson, Judd Arnold and Colby White added one run scored.
Wilson threw a complete game on the hill with 10 strikeouts. Fred Knight, Tanner Kirk, Tyler Randolph and Domonique Hubert each scored one run. Thomas Moore threw five innings and Kirk threw two innings on the mound.
