Atmore issues no burn ordinance within city
Atmore Fire &Rescue chief Gerry McGhee has issued a no burn ordinance for those within the city limits until further notice.
McGhee said the main factor in issuing the ordinance was because the city hasn't had any substantial rain in several weeks.
"It's going to be real dry, we're trying to be on the safe side," McGhee said. "We don't want anybody to lose any property"
EMA director to speak at David's
The West Escambia Chapter of American Red Cross will meet today at David's Catfish House today at noon for a Dutch lunch.
Guest speaker will be Escambia County Emergency Management Director David Adams.
Red Cross blood drive Thursday
The American Red Cross will be holding a blood drive at Atmore City Hall on Thursday, June 15 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Huxford VFD fish fry slated June 17
The Huxford Volunteer Fire Department will be having their annual Catfish Fish Fry Saturday, June 17 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the fire station on Old Front Street in Huxford.
The plates will be $5 with all proceeds going to the fire department.
VBS at Trinity to begin July 19
Trinity Episcopal Church registration for Vacation Bible School is now open to any child age four to ten. To be held July 19, 20 and 21 from 8:30 to noon, this year's theme will be Son Treasure Island! Bible stories, games, snacks and music will fill the Parish Hall each morning.

Commission slated to meet June 26
The Escambia County Commission will conduct an adjourned regular session on Monday, June 26, 2006 at 9 a.m. in the County Commission Chambers, Room 201 at the Escambia County Courthouse.
Northview offers summer reading
Any student wishing to get extra credit in an English class at the beginning of the 2006-2007 school year, can stop by the guidance department or administrative department for a list of AR books by FCAT Reading level. The test will be taken upon the student's return to school. If a parent or student has any questions, please call 327-6681 ext. 222 or ext. 225.
Diabetic education meeting June 20
A Diabetic education group meeting will be held Tuesday, June 20 in the Atmore Community Hospital auditorium at 6 p.m. Dr. Jonah McIntyre will present the free session entitled "Just for You".
Summer camp at Family Life Center
Atmore Family Life Center is now taking applications for summer camp. Classes begin June 12 at 8 a.m.

Summer reading program at library
The Atmore Public Library will be hosting a Summer Reading Program that will be held every Friday at 10-11 a.m.,until July 7th.
Children ages 5-12 are welcome to attend. The theme of this year's program is "Once Upon A Time."
