The Atmore Motorcross Track was firing on all cylinders last weekend with the Summer Bash event. Summer Bash was the first race on the track that saw competitive racing action on Saturday and Sunday.
Track owner Bobby Hadley said holding races on both days of the weekend relieved a lot of the stress on Sunday.
"It was a lot more manageable because we split the races between the two days," he said.
The quad racers from Mississippi, Alabama and Florida led the afternoon off on Saturday followed by the adult pit bike money races. Track promoter Steve Hicks said this is growing in interest.
"The event puts men and women on hopped up child-size peewee bikes for competition on the youth track," he said.
Tony Jewah and Faith Racers Ministries out of Lineville led off Sunday with MX Church Services before the racing action began.
Following the church service was the rest of the race schedule, including the powder puff race and other various female races. These races were sponsored by www.dirtbikedivas.com.
Hadley said anywhere from 500-700 people passed through the gates as paying customers and the weekend saw 178 riders registered for a race. The heat of summer was a factor according to Hadley, but he said he would like to thank all the loyal supporters who came out to watch the racing anyways.
"Although the temperature was high, the riders pushed on and their endurance was tested out there," Hadley said. "All-in-all I think everyone had a good time and there were no serious injuries, which is always good. I would like to thank all riders and spectators for enduring the heat with us."
Hicks also had good things to say about how the weekend went.
"The weather and talent at Atmore Motocross Park this past weekend was smoking hot," Hicks said.
The final summer race at the track will be July 15-16 and then the track will take another break until the fall schedule starts in September.
