George Thames Jr.
ATMORE – Mr. George Thames Jr, 76 of Atmore died on Sunday, June 25, 2006 at his residence.
He was a member of the Second Mt. Triumph Baptist Church in Atmore. He was a retired forklift driver from Monsanto with over 25 years of service and was known around the community for selling greens.
His wife, Mary Thames who died in December 2005, his parents, George Sr and Elizabeth Thames, a sister, Bessie McBride and a brother, Samuel Thames, preceded him in death.
He is survived by three daughters, Annette Jeffers and Teresa G (Charlie) Davis both of Atmore and Pamela Thames of Bridgeport, Conn.; fours sons, Howard (Lula) Thames, John A. Thames, Alex F. (Katrina) Thames all of Atmore and Michael Thames of Baton Rouge, La; five sisters, Loretta McCants and Ernestine King both of Atmore, Evelyn Marry and Shirley Thames both of Pensacola, Fla., and Minnie Stallworth of Huntsville; three brothers, James Thames of Mobile, Willie Thames of Pensacola, Fla., and Theodore Thames of Sacramento, Ca.; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2006 at 2 p.m. at the Second Mt. Triumph Baptist Church in Atmore with the Rev. Joe L. Hayes officiating. Interment will be held in Fairview Cemetery.
Public viewing will be held on Friday from 2 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home and his body will lie instate at the church an hour prior to the service.
Carl "Joey" White
ATMORE – Mr. Carl "Joey" White, 47, passed away Monday, June 26, 2006 at a Pensacola hospital.
Mr. White was a native and former resident of Century, Fla., and a resident of Atmore for the past year. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and uncle. He attended the Gospel Light Temple and was preceded in death by his father, Joe Ivey White, a brother, Randy White and a sister, Diane White.
Survivors include: his wife, Jamie White of Atmore; two sons, William Joseph White and Jon Michael White, both of Lockhart; two daughters, Kristen Hiebert of Century, Fla., and Jolene Hiebert of Appleton; his mother, Evelyn Inez White of Atmore; three grandchildren, Hayley Watts, Nathan James Rolin and Christopher Michael DeFee; two sisters, Sandra and Donnie Victor of Century, Fla., and Yolande and Ray Himes of Flomaton.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 10 a.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Wallace Reid officiating. Burial will be at Byrneville Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 28, 2006 between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. at the Petty – Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be James Emmons, Darron Hopkins, Ronnie Beck, Chuck Skaggs, Ray McCullough, Mike Pugh, Keith Pugh and Joe Gipson. Honorary pallbearers will be Bernie Pugh, Lamar Comalander, Dick Stokes, Fred Edmond Stokes and Charlie Cash.
Eleanor James Hall
ATMORE – Mrs. Eleanor James Hall, 86, passed away Monday, June 26, 2006 in Tuscaloosa.
Mrs. Hall was a native of Freemanville and a resident of Atmore for most of her life. She owned Eleanor's House of Beauty for 40 years, attended the Primitive Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Hall and a son, Larry Luker.
Survivors include: two daughters, Elizabeth and Jim Jett of Mobile and Ann and Tom Windham of Tuscaloosa; a stepson, Allen Hall of Mobile; a stepdaughter, Judy McCall of Florida; five grandchildren, Randy Reynolds of Mobile, Malisa Hester of Birmingham, Shirley Windham of Tuscaloosa, Karen Flowers of Nokomis and Ricky Luker of Atmore; five great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; her brother, Ray James of Nokomis and fours sisters, Ruth Jones of Fairhope, Elsie Hemmert of Elberta, Faye Smith of Atlanta and Betty Hutto of S.C.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at 11 a.m. at the Petty Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Elder Harry Bridgeman and Brother Phillip James officiating.
Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 28, 2006 from 10 a.m. until funeral time at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Randy Reynolds, Ricky Luker, Tony James, Gene Freeland, David Hutto and Dan Smith.
Mary Lee Elliott
CENTURY – Ms. Mary Lee Elliott, 76, of Mobile, formerly of Century, Fla., died on Friday, June 23, 2006 at Mobile Infirmary.
Ms. Elliott was a member of Williams Chapel AME Zion Church in Mobile and had been a member of Pilgrim Lodge Baptist Church in Century.
She was a seamstress in the clothing industry and had attended school in Century, Fla.
Her parents, Julius and Jessie Lee Harris, preceded her in death.
She is survived by two daughters, Iretha Smith of Pensacola, Fla., and Theresa Wright of Century, Fla.; three sons, Willie M. Elliott of Century, Fla., Donald Elliott of Mobile and James Elliott of Brewton; three sisters, Mamie Hawthorne of Mobile, Jessie Mae Anderson of Century, Fla., and Dorothy Jean Betts of Atmore; two brothers, Raymond Harris of Pensacola, Fla., and James Harris of Century, Fla; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren and her ex-husband, Mark (Gwendolyn) Elliott of Century, Fla.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 30, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Saved Ministries on Highway 29 in Century, Fla., with Rev. Tara Wright, pastor and Rev. Milton Parsons, eulogist. Interment will be held in the Century Cemetery.
Public viewing will be held on Thursday from 2 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home and her body will lie instate at the church one hour prior to the services.
Turner Funeral Chapel is in charge of all arrangements.
Mattie McCants
CENTURY – Mrs. Mattie McCants, 93, of Century, Fla., died on Sunday, June 25, 2006 at Century Care Center.
Mrs. McCants was a native of Conecuh County and was a member of Pilgrim Lodge Baptist Church in Century where she was a member of the # 3 choir and attended Sunday school.
She worked in private duty housework and attended school in Conecuh County.
Her parents, sisters, and her brothers preceded her in death.
She is survived by her caregivers/nieces, Lizzie Scott and Sylvia Austin both of Century, Fla.; and a host of other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2006 at 11 a.m. at the Pilgrim Lodge Baptist Church in Century with Rev. Leonard Watson Jr officiating. Interment will be held in the Century Cemetery.
Public viewing will be held on Friday from 2 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home and her body will lie instate at the church one hour prior to the services.
