It seems just like yesterday that the school bells rang sounding the last day of school.
Now here we are in the first full week of August and Florida students are already back in school.
The new school year appears to be approaching earlier with each new year.
Santa Rosa County students, also in Florida, went back to class this past week on Aug. 2.
Many state school boards are entertaining the idea of having school year round.
At first thought, the idea is absurd, especially to students, but when it is broken down with holidays and special breaks the idea begins to look a bit better.
For most people, however, summer is summer and a break here and there cannot take the place of the much anticipated summer break.
The summer break gives students, teachers and parents something to look forward to.
A typical school year is made up of numerous holidays anyway giving everyone small breaks throughout the year.
Florida students are given a fall break as a peace offering of sorts for having to return to class so early in the summer months.
In years past, school never began until the fall months. And with the official start of the fall season being on Sept. 23, summer is certainly getting the short end of the stick.
No matter how early or late, schools all around will be back in session, be it summer or fall.
And with that, comes additional time restraints on everyone involved.
It is important to remember that school buses will once again be rolling on local roadways with frequent stops as they go.
We all have places to be and people to see. So be certain to use extreme caution as the buses began to occupy the roads and place close attention to school zones as well.
Do your part in making the 2006-2007 school year a great one!
