Phyllis C. Newton
CENTURY – Mrs. Phyllis C. Newton, age 89 passed away Monday, July 31, 2006 at Jay Hospital. She was a native of Flomaton and a resident of Century, Fla., for many years.
She was a member of Greater Union Missionary Baptist Church in Century, Fla and worked for Lakeview Janitorial as a custodian.
Her mother, Florence McCall Odom, father, Samuel Odom, husband, W. T. Newton, son, Kenneth P. Newton and brothers, Samuel Odom, Edward Odom, James Brooks and Billy Brooks, preceded her in death.
She is survived by: one daughter, Dorothy E. Newton of Century, Fla.; four sons, Williard Newton of Flomaton, Jimmy (Gwendolyn) Newton of Century, Fla., Cecil (Angela) Newton of Far Rockaway, N.Y., and Roy E. and (Bessie) Newton of Pensacola, Fla.; two sisters, Minnie Lee Odom of Flomaton and Mary Pearl (William) Stotts of Atmore; two brothers, Marshall Brooks of Long Island, N.Y. and John C. Brooks of Baltimore, Md.; 22 grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren and a host of great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 5, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Greater Union Missionary Baptist Church in Century, Fla., with Pastor Henderson Powell, Jr., officiating. Burial followed in Pleasant/Jordan Cemetery in Flomaton.
Public viewing was held from 2 p.m. until 8:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 4, 2006 at Turner Funeral Chapel. Turner Funeral Chapel was in charge of all arrangements.
Edwin E. Priest
WALNUT HILL – Mr. Edwin E. Priest, age 68 of Walnut Hill, Fla., died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2006 in Pensacola, Fla.
He was a maintenance supervisor with the Alabama Department of Corrections, born in Norfolk, Va., on April 8, 1938 to the late Hardy Joshua and Florence Berry Priest.
Survivors are: two sons, Bryan E. Priest of Parttiville and Shannon Priest of Bay Minette; three daughters, Dona K. Harper of Americus, Ga., Kim Green of Preston, Ga., and Darlene Priest of Walnut Hill, Fla.; two brothers, Ephey Priest and Marion Priest of Manteo, N.C.; one sister, Rachel Priest of Missouri; twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren; special friends, Mike and Teresa Swilley, Larry Garrett, Alan and Penny German and Earl Combs.
Graveside services were held Thursday, Aug. 3, 2006 at 10 a.m. in Godwin Cemetery with Bro. Mike Grindle officiating. Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home, Inc., was in charge of all arrangements.
Vernon O. Conley
OAK GROVE – Vernon O. Conley, age 84 passed away Sunday, July 23, 2006 at a local hospital.
Conley was a resident of Escambia County, Fla., for 47 years and was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church. He was a WWII veteran where he served in the Navy for 23 years. He was also a retired employee of the Escambia County School Board.
Survivors include: his wife, Barbara Conley of Walnut Hill, Fla.; one son, Dale Conley and wife Rebecca of Navarre, Fla.; two daughters, Debbie Springer and husband Eric of Chesapeake, Va.; Cindy Milstead and husband Vince of Walnut Hill, Fla.; two brothers, J. B. Conley of Albuquerque, N.M., Robert Conley of Dixon, II; two sisters, Charlotte Steiner of Dalton Gardens, Idaho, Carol Beasley of Athens, Tenn.; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 28, 2006 at 10:30 p.m. at Petty Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Roy Chewning officiating. Burial followed at Oak Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Michael Milstead, Doyle Gresham, A. J. Hudson, George Carpenter, Jerry Sheppard and Willie Peebles.
The family will accept flowers or contributions can be made to the Florida Baptist Children's Home.
Willard Lee Tyree
MCCULLOUGH – Mr. Willard Lee Tyree, 79 of McCullough, died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2006 at his residence. He was retired from the Pensacola Naval Air Station, born on Sept. 5, 1926 to the late Robert Lee and Henrietta Cornelia Taylor Tyree.
He is preceded in death by one grandson, Jason Caraway.
Survivors are: his wife, Eunice M. Tyree, one son, Willard David Tyree both of McCullough; three daughters, Mary Ellen Tyree Snyder of Huxford, Bernice Tyree Caraway and Jeanette "Toochie" Tyree Weaver both of McCullough; one sister, Mildred Bowman of Lottie; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Saturday, Aug. 5, 2006 at 3 p.m. in McCullough Cemetery with Rev. Corneilus Phillips officiating.
Active pallbearers were: Mathew Bowman, Brandon Snyder, Mark Bowman, Chad McMurphy, Tony Tolbert and Mitchell Murphy.
Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.
Jerry Renzo Redmond
ATMORE – Mr. Jerry Renzo Redmond, age 54, passed away Monday, July 31, 2006 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Fla.
He was a native of Pensacola, Fla., and a resident of Atmore, formerly of Walnut Hill, Fla. He was self-employed as a cement finisher.
His mother, Rachael Redmond, grandparents, Wiley and Julia Marshall and a brother, Robert Redmond, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Redmond; one daughter, Gwendlyn Redmond of Atmore; one son, Jerry Redmond, Jr., of Atmore; one brother, Gary Redmond of Walnut Hill, Fla.; six sisters, Annie (John) Richardson, Shirley (Sammie) Moore, Geraldine (David) Fountain, Barbara (Randy) Boggan, Judy Redmond and Joann (Fletcher) Mitchell all of Walnut Hill, Fla.; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Aug. 7, 2006 at 1 p.m. at Walnut Hill Church of God in Christ in Walnut Hill, Fla., with Bishop John D. Young officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul Cemetery in Walnut Hill, Fla.
Public viewing will be held Sunday, Aug. 6, 2006 from 3 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the Chapel. Family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, 2006 at Turner Funeral Chapel.
Turner Funeral Chapel is in charge of all arrangements.
