United Fund kicks off September 14
United Fund of Atmore Kick Off Celebration will be Sept. 14 from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Heritage Park.
Hot dogs, Pepsi, snow cones, local bands, Polka Dot the Clown, jumping house for kids, a drawing for prizes and much more will be on hand.
Bring your chairs and lawn blankets.
ECHS PTO meeting set for Monday
The Escambia County High School PTO meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Sept. 11 in the auditorium.
Parents will be receiving usernames and passwords for the STI-home program, which will allow them to access student data such as grades, attendance and discipline.
ECMS PTO meeting, open house Sept. 11
Escambia County Middle School will host its kick-off PTO meeting, open house and ECMS School Business Partners appreciation dinner at 5 p.m. on Sept. 11.
All parents, business leaders and Atmore area citizens are encouraged to attend.
Retired teachers to meet Sept. 14
The regular meeting of the Esambia County Retired Teachers Association will be held at 11 a.m. on Sept. 14 at the Creek Family Restaurant in Atmore.
All education retirees, on any level, as well as other interested persons and anyone receiving a check from TRS of Alabama are invited to attend this very important meeting.
Commission will meet Sept. 11
The Escambia County Commission will conduct a regular session meeting at 9 a.m. on Sept. 11 in the Commission Chambers.
ADRT raising funds to buy generator
The Atmore Disaster Response Team (ADRT) is seeking donations to purchase a generator to be used in Atmore at evacuation shelters.

McKinley to speak to historical society
The Atmore Historical Society will meet Monday Sept. 18 in the Peavy-Webb building at 6 p.m. The guest speaker will be Kevin McKinley of Robinsonville, who will speak about Civil War battles and encampments that occurred in this area.
Copies of Mr. McKinley's recently published book, "Shadows and Dust: The Journal of the Confederacy in North West Florida and South West Alabama," will be available for sale after the meeting.
