Our View
The Atmore Area YMCA was one of a thousand YMCAs who planned a variety of events and activities to take place this week as a part of the America on the Move Week initiative.
The Atmore Y was hoping to inspire area residents to incorporate healthier living into their daily routine by taking 'small steps' to get them active and moving.
While more than 100 people did agree to track the number of steps they take in a day with the use of a pedometer during America on the Move Week, the low turnout for Saturday's events was discouraging for the YMCA staff.
The Atmore Area YMCA is a non-profit organization that serves people of all ages, faiths, backgrounds, abilities and income levels with the sole purpose of "building healthy spirit, mind and body for all."
Everyone could benefit from the opportunities made available through our local YMCA. Whether it is an aerobics class, a game of basketball, lifting weights or walking on a treadmill, the Atmore Y has something for everyone.
There are many small towns such as Atmore who are looking for a way to bring a YMCA to their community every day. Atmore has one. Why aren't we supporting it?
Swift Supply was the only business in town to sponsor their employees as they track their number of steps for a week. Healthy employees equal productivity in the workplace.
You may have missed Saturday's event, but it is not too late to show your support for our local YMCA and do something beneficial for yourself or your employees at the same time. Call the Y today to see what you can do to help them and what they can do for you.
