On Tuesday, Nov. 7 voters in rural sections of Escambia and Monroe Counties will have the opportunity to finally return decision making back to the local level. For years, the hands of local officials have been tied behind their backs as they have waited for legislators in Montgomery to make decisions that should be made on the local level.
A yes vote will give the county the ability to address issues such as junkyards, litter and pollution. The vote is possible because of the passage of legislature called the "Alabama Limited Self Governance Act" (Act 2005-200).
Voters must understand only "unincorporated"/rural residents will be voting on the Act. Please do your part by voting yes on Act 2005-200 Tuesday, Nov. 7. A clean, safe and presentable county is always easier to promote to industry and families wanting to locate.
Voters can read the entire Act and details on how the local programs will be operated by visiting an internet site set up specifically on this issue. The site is www.selfgov.net <http://www.selfgov.net/> and provides information that I hope all voters will review before the November election.
Thank you for your support.
