Lelia McCastle
Mrs. Lelia McCastle, 86, of Atmore passed away Thursday, Dec. 7, 2006 at Mobile Infirmary Hospital. Services are to be announced by Turner Funeral Chapel.
Letha McWilliams
STOCKTON – Mrs. Letha McWilliams, 83, of Stockton passed away Thursday, Dec. 7, 2006 at Mobile Infirmary Hospital. Services are to be announced by Turner Funeral Chapel.
Zelma Louise Moorer
WALNUT HILL, FLA. – Mrs. Zelma Louise Moorer, 79, passed away Monday, Dec. 4, 2006 at West Florida Hospital.
Mrs. Moorer was a native of Monroe County and a former resident of Walnut Hill, Fla. She was a member of New St. Paul Baptist Church in Walnut Hill, Fla. and was a member of the Senior Choir, Missionary Society, and on the church decorating committee.
Mrs. Moorer worked as a custodian at Ernest Ward School and Bratt Elementary School and was preceded in death her parents, Joseph and Pearl Ocain.
Survivors include: her husband, David Moorer; six daughters, Lorea (Oscar) Stokes and Hattie (Terry) Ewing both of Corinth, TX, Gloria Moorer and Tammie (Tyrone) Dunn both of Century, Fla., Diane (Joe) Thames and Vera (Milton) Simpson both of Walnut Hill, Fla.; six sons, Thomas (Louise) Williams of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Ular C. (Lorene) Moorer and Glen (Doretha) Moorer both of Walnut Hill, Fla., Joey (Bonnie) Moorer of Pensacola, Fla., Ronnie Long of Philadelphia, PA and Arnold Moorer of Pensacola, Fla.; one sister, Georgia Mae Lambert of Mobile; four brothers, Johnnie (Beulah) Ocain of Panama City, Fla., Danie (Ann) Ocain of Atmore, Nathaniel (Mandy) Ocain of San Antonio, TX, and Willie Ocain of Baltimore, MD; 38 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006 at 1p.m. at New St. Paul Baptist Church with Rev. Willie White officiating.
Burial followed at New St. Paul Cemetery.
Visitation was held Friday, Dec. 8, 2006 from 2 to 8:30 at Tuner Funeral Chapel.

Louise Blackmon Sanders
BRATT, Fla. – Mrs. Louise Blackmon Sanders, 62, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2006 at a local hospital.
Mrs. Sanders was a native of Bratt, Fla. and a resident of Atmore for the past 20 years. She attended the Pentecostal Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Sanders and her parents, George and Lenora Blackmon.
Survivors include: five daughters, Leah Sanders of Farmville, Va , Penny Slate of Atmore, Sherri Proctor of Farmville, Va.,., Shawn Sanders and Sandra Sanders, both of Flomaton; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Florine Wiggins of Bratt, Fla. and Janie Dews of Pensacola, Fla.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006 at 2p.m. at the Petty Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Theron Collingsworth officiating.
Burial followed at the Godwin Cemetery.
Visitation was held Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006 from 1p.m. until funeral time at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Logan Sanders, Joshua Powell, Jeremiah Powell, David Torrence, Jacob IIaskew, and Tim Slate.
Ruth "Dell" Whittaker
RANGE – Mrs. Ruth "Dell" Whittaker, 77, passed away Friday, Dec. 8, 2006 in Range.
Mrs. Whittaker was a native of Niceville, Fla. and a resident of Range since Jan. of 2006. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and attended the Lenox Baptist Church.
Survivors include: her husband of 55 years, Rev. Vernie C. Whittaker of Range; two sons, Vernie Ray Whittaker of Birmingham and Stephen Lyle Whittaker of Brewton; her daughter, Sharon Denise Slaey of Montgomery; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held today, Sunday, Dec. 10, 2006 at 2p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. James Pugh and Rev. Mike King officiating.
Burial will follow at the Pine Level Cemetery.
Visitation was held Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006 between 6 and 9p.m. at the Petty Eastside Chapel Funeral Home..
Randy McCaw
ATMORE – Mr. Randy McCaw, 53, passed away Thursday, Dec. 7, 2006 in Atmore.
Mr. McCaw was a native of Century, Fla., a former resident of Mobile, and a resident of Atmore for the past nine years. He was a composer, drummer and musician for the McCullough Christian Center.
Survivors include: his wife, Glenda F. McCaw of Atmore; two sons, Randall Joseph McCaw of Nederlands, TX and Brandon Manac of Atmore; his daughter, Valerie Daughtry Fuller of Atmore; four grandchildren, Skylar Cheyanne Hall, Jordyn Leigh Hall, Ashlyn Grace Fuller and Kaileigh Elizabeth Manac; his brother, Eddie Wayne McCaw of Century; and three sisters, Brenda McCaw Cole of Citronelle, Mary Hicks of Moss Point, MS, and Hazel McCoy of Hurley, MS.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006 at 10a.m. at the Petty- Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Cornelius Phillips and Rev. L.V. Comans officiating.
Burial followed at the Poston Cemetery.
Visitation was held Friday, Dec. 8, 2006 between 6 and 9p.m. at the Petty Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Lewis Fretwell, Milton Cooper, Jason Horton, Terry Pugh, Peety Cooper, Walter Rolin, and Joel Reed.
Harriet McKenzie Bradshaw
PEACH TREE CITY, GA. – Harriet McKenzie Bradshaw, 66 of Peachtree City, GA. died on November 19, 2006 with complications from cancer. Mrs. Bradshaw was born in Atmore, Alabama and attended public schools in Atmore and Jackson, Alabama. She attended the University of Montevallo and graduated from Auburn University in 1962 with a B.S. in Education. She was a member of numerous organizations including Delta Delta Delta Sorority and performed with the traveling Auburn Players Drama Group while at Auburn.
She worked as a classroom teacher and Special Reading Teacher in the DeKalb County Schools where she was an active member of the DeKalb Association of Educators and a founding member of the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE). She was a member of the International Reading Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development and the National Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development.
Mrs. Bradshaw attended graduate school at the University of Georgia on a teaching Assistantship and received a Masters Degree in Teaching and Reading. Her responsibilities in the Reading Department included being a demonstration teacher of remedial and corrective reading and evaluating Children with severe reading disabilities that were referred to the University Reading Clinic.
She was widely recognized for her expertise in instruction and was active with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) in the school accreditation process. She served on several state and local SACS Committees including the outside Visiting Committee that evaluated and recommended initial accreditation of Fayette County Elementary Schools in 1975.
Harriet Bradshaw was an active member of the honor education society Alpha Delta Kappa (ADK) from 1975-1985. During that time she was on several ADK Committees and served two terms as Treasurer of the organization.
She was an active member of the Women's Chamber of Commerce of Atlanta in the late 70's and early eighties serving on the Star Student Reception Committee, the Urban Life Committee, and the Dogwood Festival Committee.
Mrs. Bradshaw is a Patron member of the Atlanta High Museum of Art and a former member of the Freedoms Foundation of Valley Forge Organization. She helped organize and chaperone two groups of honor high school students who attended a series of classes in Washington, D.C. and Valley Forge, PA. She also served on the Freedoms Foundation Board of Directors, was Youth Committee Chairperson and worked with the annual Tour of Homes.
She was a leader in the Georgia-Pernambuco Partners of the Americas organization instituted by President Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalyn when he was Governor of Georgia. The organization sponsored an annual exchange between Recife, Brazil and Atlanta, Georgia. Mrs. Bradshaw was on the Board of Directors, hosted Brazilian visitors, and traveled to Brazil during one of the earlier exchanges. President Carter's widely known Friendship Force implemented nationally during his presidency was modeled after the Georgia organization that Harriet Bradshaw helped nurture and succeed.
Active in the United Methodist Church for more than 40 years, she was a Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School Teacher, Education Committee Chair, and a member of the Council on Ministries, Administrative Board, and Stewardship Committee of the Dunwoody United Methodist Church. She was also active in the United Methodist Women, the Prayer Ministry, and in the Interpreter's Sunday School Class. Since moving to Peachtree City and joining the Peachtree City United Methodist Church, Mrs. Bradshaw has served as Vice Chair of the United Methodist Women, President of Naomi Circle, and taught bible study in the Grits and Grace Program in Peachtree City assisted living homes.
She is survived by her husband Scott Bradshaw of Peachtree City, and daughter Kathryn L. Bradshaw of Peachtree City. She is preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Maxwell of Atmore, and father, Harrison P. McKenzie of Selma, AL. She is the cousin of Robert Maxwell of Atmore.
Funeral Services were held Wednesday, November 22, 2006 at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Carl J. Mowell and Son, Peachtree City. Rev. Sean Robinson will officiate. Interment will be at Westminster Memorial Gardens.
