In light of recent reports of severe influenza illness among children, the Alabama Department of Public Health takes this opportunity to encourage all persons to be vaccinated against influenza.
Influenza vaccine can be administered to children as young as 6 months of age.
"It is always disturbing to learn about severe cases of influenza, particularly those among small children," said Dr. Donald E. Williamson, state health officer. "I am encouraged that vaccine supplies should be ample for all those who seek vaccination, and I encourage persons to do so."
The public is urged to contact their local health care provider or county health department to inquire about influenza vaccine.
