Reception will recognize judges
A reception for the retirement of the Honorable Joseph B. Brogden, presiding Circuit Judge for the 21st Judicial Circuit of Alabama and the investiture of Honorable Bert W. Rice as Circuit Judge for the 21st Judicial Circuit, will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007 at 2p.m. at the Escambia County Courthouse in Brewton.

Flu shots advised for all
In light of recent reports of severe influenza illness among children, the Alabama Department of Public Health takes this opportunity to encourage all persons to be vaccinated against influenza.
Influenza vaccine can be administered to children as young as 6 months of age.
The public is urged to contact their local health care provider or county health department to inquire about influenza vaccine.

NWE football meeting to elect officers Jan. 7
NWE football will be meeting Jan. 7 at the baseball field.
The meeting is for the election of officers.
Retired Teachers Assoc. meet Jan. 11
The Escambia County Education Retirees Association (Formerly known as the Escambia County Retired Teachers Association) will hold its first meeting of the year on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007 at the Creek Family Restaurant at 11a.m. All education retirees on any academic level, all persons drawing a check from the RSA, and all persons interested in public education are invited to attend this important meeting. After the meeting, a Dutch treat lunch will be available for those desiring lunch.
JDCC offers ballroom dance lessons in Jan.
Jefferson Davis Community College will be offering Ballroom Dance Lessons. Beginning social Waltz will be from Jan. 18-Feb. 22 from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. each night. Beginning Social Swing will start Jan. 16 and end Feb. 20 It will take place from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. For more information contact JDCC at 867-4832 or Don Lanier at 867-2946.
Ala. Cotton pageant accepting applications
The Alabama Cotton pageant is now accepting entries into the 2007 Pageant which will be held in the Dothan area.
The pageant will be held the first weekend of June.
The pageant is open for contestants age 2-25 and you are not required to live in Alabama.
The pageant date is Saturday June 2nd.
Competition consists of beauty, photogenic, sportswear, interview and evening gown.

Relay for Life
pageant Jan. 20
"Kings and Queens of Hope Pageant," a Relay for Life Fund Raiser is to be held Jan. 20 at 2 p.m. in the Escambia County High School auditorium. Open to all area children (boys and girls) ages 0-19 years.
Enrollment fees are $50 for the first child and $25 for each additional sibling. Pre-registration will be held at Heritage Park in Atmore on Saturday, Dec. 2 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m.
All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.
