Nominate your top citizen today
The Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce is currently accepting nominations for the 2006 Citizen of the Year award. The deadline for submission is Jan. 22 at 5 p.m.
The award is given out each year at the annual Chamber of Commerce Meeting in an effort to recognize an individual who has played an important part in promoting and supporting the city of Atmore in various ways.
This years meeting will be held Monday, Jan. 29 at 6 p.m. at the Atmore Area YMCA &Community Center located at 501 S. Pensacola Avenue in Atmore.

Turner's hosting candlelight vigil
Turner Funeral Home will be holding it's third annual Candlelight Service of Memory on Sunday, Jan. 14 at 5 p.m.
The service will be held at Liberty Missionary Baptist Church located at 48 Liberty Street in Atmore with the Rev. T.N. Miller, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Kingston in Birmingham, speaking.

Retired Teachers Assoc. meet Jan. 11
The Escambia County Education Retiree's Association (Formerly known as the Escambia County Retired Teachers Association) will hold its first meeting of the year on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007 at the Creek Family Restaurant at 11a.m. All education Retiree's on any academic level, all persons drawing a check from the RSA, and all persons interested in public education are invited to attend this important meeting. After the meeting, a Dutch treat lunch will be available for those desiring lunch.
Friendship Club luncheon Jan. 11
McCullough Friendship Luncheon will be held Thursday, Jan. 11 at 11a.m.
The meeting will be held at Fire Mountain Grill in Ensley.
AWANA meeting at FBC of Atmore
First Baptist Church of Atmore will hold an AWANA meeting Thursday, Jan. 11th at 6p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. AWANA is a program to reach children with the Word of God. This meeting will finalize all plans to get this program started. Anyone interested is invited to attend, even if you weren't able to attend the previous information sessions.
Blood Drive to be held in Walnut Hill
A blood drive originally scheduled to be held at the Walnut Hill Farm Supply store has been changed to the Walnut Hill School located at 6910 Hwy. 97.
The blood drive will be held Jan. 15 from 7:30 a.m. until noon.
MLK program at AMEZ Church Jan. 14
A.M.E.Z Church, 127 Carver, will have a Martin Luther King program on Sunday Jan. 14, 2007 at 3p.m. Special speaker will be Claude Shuford from Mt. Zion A.M.E.Z in Montgomery. Everyone is invited to attend.
MLK Parade planned for Jan. 15 in Atmore
A Martin Luther King Holiday Celebration in Atmore will be held Monday, Jan. 15, 2007.
A Prayer Breakfast will be held Jan. 13 at 8 a.m. at Atmore Community Hospital. Admission will be $10.
The parade will be from Houston Avery Park on Martin Luther King Avenue. Line up starts at 8 a.m. and the parade will roll at 10 a.m.
A program will be held immediately after the parade at Gaines Chapel AME Church on Carver Ave.
Keynote speaker will be council man Frederick Richardson of Mobile.
There will also be entertainment and free food.

PCRC to observe MLK holiday Jan. 14
The Progressive Civic and Recreational Club is sponsoring the 21st observance of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday on Sunday, Jan. 14 at Light house Apostolic Holiness Church at 95 Monroe Street in Atmore.
The program will begin at 3 p.m. and will feature a sermon by Bishop Robert Grissett, songs by the host church choir and congregational songs directed by Mr.W.J. Grissett.
FBC Atmore to host
January Senior Jubilee
The First Baptist Church of Atmore will host the Escambia Baptist Association's Senior Adult January Jubilee on Tuesday, Jan. 16 at 10 a.m. at Little Escambia Baptist Church.
Speaker will be the Rev. Jeff Edwards; pastor of Catawba Springs Baptist Church and music evangelist will be Haskell Dunn. Lunch will be served.
Relay for Life pageant to be held Jan. 20
"Kings and Queens of Hope Pageant," a Relay for Life Fund Raiser is to be held Jan. 20 at 2 p.m. in the Escambia County High School auditorium. Open to all area children (boys and girls) ages 0-19 years.
All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.

Faith Bible classes begin at FBC Atmore
The First Baptist Church of Atmore will begin a new semester of Faith Bible Institute Monday night, Jan. 22nd at 6:30p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.
Historical Society to meet on Jan. 15
The Atmore Historical Society will meet at 6 p.m. Jan. 15 at the Peavy-Webb building located in Heritage Park to discuss plans to travel to Mobile to see the "A Day in Pompeii" exhibit.
EW Booster Club to meet Jan. 22 at 6 pm
Ernest Ward Booster Club will hold a meeting Jan. 22nd at 6p.m. The meeting will take place in the school cafeteria.
Sullivan cemetery to hold annual meeting

Gospel singing at Bay Springs Church

The Butt Burners Relay for Life Team is cooking for the Super Bowl.
